Looking at those screencaps, one thing I do like is that we're actually going to see Nero's ship do some real damage and destroy a Federation starship or two.

One major problem I had with Nemesis is that-- while Shinzon and his ship certainly LOOKED scary and powerful-- we never saw them really do anything except kill off the Romulan council. If we had seen him actually take out a few starships on the way to Earth, it would have upped the stakes and made the showdown between him and the Ent-E a LOT more compelling.

It's the same reason the Borg and Dominion were such great villains-- because everytime we saw them take out a huge, mighty Federation Starship it made us go "holy shit, these guys mean business!" Thankfully Abrams seems to be doing the same kind of thing with Nero too.

From the look of the scaffolds- which were there when Kirk is a kid- to his looking at The Big E as a young adult... I think it's being built in Iowa. But when I blew up an HD screencap, the sign does not say IA... the "A" is a StarFleet delta.
Not only for dramatic effect, but it does make sense for the E to be built in a rural area. If you are going to build it on the ground, best not to do it in a highly populated area.
The post of Enterprise built by the bay, may be accurate, but I don't think it fits with the storyline I have been reading so far.
