TrekBBS and Friends

The list means nothing. But it's fun sometimes to go to the friends lists of trolls and/or posters you don't like and take a snap shot of it because it says they have no friends. :)

Shame some of us unpopular trolls purposefully reject friend requests because they don't see the point in the feature.

Sometimes it's just my way of letting a person know I like them.

That's cool and all, but I remember the days when we didn't need to put someone on a friends' list on the Internet to tell them we liked them and people didn't ask for a divorce by changing their Facebook relationship status to "single".

Well, that can apply to different situations. I don't need to add someone I know personally on Facebook to let them know I think of them as a friend because obviously they know that from our in-person interactions. When I like someone on TBBS, I don't have many opportunities in a thread to randomly gush and say "I like you and think you're awesome!!!"

Okay, so I do that sometimes anyway. I just did that to Locutus in some thread like a day ago.

Anyway, I'm more comfortable with private gestures rather than public ones, and that applies to the internet as well as RL.

I was recently invited by another member to join their friends list, and have added them to mine. I don't understand the point of the feature either, but hey, who doesn't want friends?

Frankly, I'm amazed that I'm not an anybody's ignore list. Of course, the century is young.......

Is it private, though ? TrekBBS posters' friends lists are public.

Generally, the friendly way you talk to me tells me more than a entry in a list ever could.

How would you even know if you're on someone's ignore list?

Yeah, especially considering you're not allowed to tell people directly.

It is, in my opinion. The list itself is public, but it's not like some red flag flashes under my name saying "Kestra wants to be friends with Hermiod!!!" if I send you a friend request. It's a private gesture from one person to another.

Either way, it doesn't matter. I like most of the people on this forum anyway, and would be happy to develop a friendship with many of them.

Ah, but I try to be civil to everyone! ;)

Yes it does. There's a list here.

Ha ha, made you look! :p

That's because you're a generally nice person.

Ah, but I try to be civil to everyone! ;)

And that has not gone unnoticed. :techman:

^^^ You're evil, you know that?

Well fine, I'll say it publicly then. You can be incredibly frustrating and I disagree with you a lot, but I like you anyway. And if you opened yourself up even just slightly, it would have been nice to be friends.

But I'll settle for the people who do want to be my friends. Clearly the people on my friends are truly the cool people around here!

Yes. 'tis my raison d'etre.

I have my reasons for being private. Quite honestly, I can't believe how much personal information people freely give away to complete strangers on the Internet.

/looks at Kestra's friends list
/compares it to list of people I have dirt on

Yeah, they're really cool... if only she knew, if only...

I've only seen the list on two forums. I have two friends on each. I like the friends here (always read what they have to say etc), on the other forum I had to go to extreme lengths...

I think the only way you can tell a poster is ignoring you is if you try to send a PM, then I think you get a "this user is ignoring you" message or something.

Which is why we need an Enemies list, and as well as Befriending Invitations, there should also be the ability to send out Estrangement Invitations to other posters. ;) :p

*shudders* "If you are a friend of posterx then you can no longer be my friend"..

:D

I have never asked anyone to be my friend here, but quite a few people have asked to be mine. I generally accept them, but that's pretty much the end of it. I'm not really sure if there is anything you can DO with your friends at all.

That's pretty much my take on it. I haven't sent any requests out so of anyone is miffed they haven't gotten one from me:

1) Get over it
2) It doesn't mean I don't love ya!

If we implement some of the friends features in the future it may be a different story.
