14 months is a lot more than most shows get.
Is it? Oh, I didn't know. That's good I guess

Sounds like the "Star Trek Brand" is being 'used' just to get subscribers for CBS All Access.
It's a marketing tool to get people on board "CBS All Access"--which makes me wary about the purpose of this show. It would be one thing if Nicholas Meyer/Ronald Moore/Rick Berman were involved in some capacity as Producers or Consultants.
It raises red flags when the name Kurtzman is involved. You can bet they'll be a script or 3 by Orci along the way.
I think this new show is just a tool to lure subscribers. Until proven otherwise, I'll stick with my dvds of the first 5 shows!
For this show to premiere in a little over a year I wonder how quickly things need to move to make that date.
Drew McWeeny from Hitfix says Kurtzman will likely use the abandoned script that he developed with Bob Orci for Star Trek 3 that Orci was going to direct. That script dealt with the Federation, Vulcans and Klingons racing against each other to find an alien time travel device.

Wasn't Voyager used to lure people to UPN? And TNG was made for syndication which was pretty new at that time.
But yes, definitely that's what it's for. But that means they want it to be a big draw. Good news surely
Why would the Vulcans be racing the Federation? That's like California competing against the USA.Drew McWeeny from Hitfix says Kurtzman will likely use the abandoned script that he developed with Bob Orci for Star Trek 3 that Orci was going to direct. I thought that was Orci and two newer screenwriters. I thought Kurtzman had "left" Trek at that point.

I am very happy with this news, though don't like that it will be on a streaming service. I am not going to sign up for that. Hopefully the premier episode does so well on CBS that they would decide to keep airing it on CBS network.
Doing 10 episode seasons like HBO shows would be a great idea if they have the right people in charge. I am not sure about Kurtzman. He is the dude who worked on the first 2 JJ movies but was not asked back for the 3rd one. And now he gets a TV series? He should consider giving calls to Manny Coto and Ron Moore to join the writing staff.
JMS is not my go to guy...for anything.
Dunno why; he has done some good stuff.
But anyway, the part of his proposal that I found really interesting at the time was this bit:

Imagine recruiting people like Alistair Reynolds, Ursula K LeGuin, George R R Martin, Richard K Morgan, James S A Corey, Ann Leckie, Neil Gaiman, Margaret Atwood, etc, etc, etc, etc - and adapting their short-stories to fit in with Star Trek - changing villains to Romulans, etc.
I've been a Star Trek fan since September, 1966. And I love ALL forms of Trek, INCLUDING the newest films. Don't claim that "older fans" don't like the new movies.Thank you. At least someone with brains sees it, instead of this keen jerk assumption that older fans are scum who must be wrong in the head and cast aside.Old time fan here. First off, I enjoyed ST09, but didn't care for STID precisely because I though it was too derivative. If I want to watch "Wrath of Khan", I already have the DVD, thank you.
Also as a student of politics I can tell you that the way to expand your base is not by alienating your preexisting supporters, but rather by keeping them and adding new people by targeting portions of your "product" to their interests.
Admittedly, a taller job, but I certainly think it can be done.
