I'm really surprised pictures have leaked out about these toys yet.

To be fair, he never said anything about seeing pictures. He's probably a Toy Fair attendee and saw them on display. I doubt Playmates is allowing pictures to be taken.
Oops! Bad typo. I meant to say I was surprised that pictures haven't leaked out yet. I guess security has been doing its job well so far!

The thing about the costuming that bothers me is we don't know why Cawley doesn't like them. He just said it isn't what he'd do.
I believe he said he liked the costumes, and that it was the set designs that he'd have done differenly.

Yeah, my impression of the Cawley comments was that "not what I'd do" meant they were not absolutely faithful TOS uniforms... but he seemed generally pleased and impressed by them. I expect something reconizable as a TOS uniform, just updated so as not to look all retro-futuristic.

yes sorry about that!there was also role play spock ears,a tricorder and phaser, and transporter room for the 4 inch range, the bridge was not finished but has kirk in the middle and view screen, with a chapagne metalic colour finish around the consoles.spock looked really old but awsome, kirks spacesuit looked semi retro but with alot more detail.debush!

Well, they're pulling the all the stops out for this movie... they have a toy for everything. I'm interested in seeing what they have Kirk doing in space. How do the phasers and tricorders look? They fit with the TOS/ TOS movies, or did they take a completely different route?

and to john1701 Cawley did say he liked the uni's. It was the ship he commented he would have done differently.

I didn't even get the sense that the costumes aren't what he would have done. He definitely said that about the bridge, the ship, etc, but here's what he said about the costumes:

(From TrekMovie.com:)

The uniforms are perfect, spot on perfect. I wouldn’t have done anything any different. When I saw the look of what he was going for, he’s got it.

I'm interpreting that as meaning that they're very close to TOS styles.

Hi guys
Back after a long dinner, the phasers are same 90% turquise and black, with some gold buttons, communicator had flip open action, and was completely black,I reckon they didnt have time to finish it 4 toyfair, enterprise didnt have 1701 or enterprise printed on saucer section.there were alot of figures in red, they had no articulation whatsoever, but that will change soon, the likeness of actors was bang on,warp nacelles side view were slightly reminicient of enterprise-e with smooth fins at the back but do not stick out that much.reflector dish was bronze, guess they were sculpted in computer,no way hand sculpted in short time frame, they showed trailer that we have all seen, there was also cloth type larger figs, uhura was well sexy!

Sounds pretty cool. The role-playing stuff sounds interesting, phasers and tricorders - pretty ambitious really, since a lot of Star Trek toys have fizzled in the past (except among collectors..that is.)

Thanks for describing it, debush. Sounds good!

*Shakes fist at internet for not supplying me with pirated photos*

Bronze deflector is great to hear. *Anything* reminiscent of that fanboy abortion known as the 1701-E...not so much.

yeah, zoe suldanna likeness was spot on,Ive never seen a character like nero before, glad they got rid of 80s shoulder pad romulans, because that was no where 2 be seen in the toy range.

rep said they aim to have toys out mid october, and there will be a bigger 1701 as well as the one shown.romulan ship
looked like nothing ive seen before, bruce greenwoods likeness in pike fig is great, his shirt has federation wreath stiched around collar area.

So are the figures kind of a cross between the old Playmate figs and the Art Asylum figs or something? It sounds like they're pretty detailed...

yes exactly like that, shirt was beige, and figs in 7 inch range look more like art asylum style detail and considering
they have only been working on them 3 weeks, thats not bad at all, gone is the gloss on the plastic and he-man like posses, also hands seemed more defined, where as even I like old playmates, gone are the glove like hands!

uhura very sexy with mini skirt and boots.

Nyota Uhura was topless with miniskirt and boots!? :wtf:

I call B.S.

"Wow, so Abrams really IS going to bring back the miniskirts? That's awesome!"

Those were minidresses.

Why should I celebrate that? Men get to wear pants but Women must wear minidresses. :GAG:

I just watched Starship Exeter's "The Tressaurian Intersection". Jo Harris changed into pants, and beamed onto the USS Kongo. She beams back, and stays in the transporter room wearing pants. Then she goes to the bridge, wearing...

the minidress again!? :wtf: :brickwall:  :scream: :censored:

"*Anything* reminiscent of that fanboy abortion known as the 1701-E...not so much."

The E-E is based on the Phase II Movie design which was based on the pre production design from The Cage. What's wrong with that? :D

Well, some of these may be slightly older, going back to the presentation that won them the license.

And, these effects movies often subcontract a company to scan actors and props to insert "real" detail into cgi effects. Some of these companies even work directly with toy companies as a side business. The basis of a lot of Star Wars toys from the last two movies were just scan of cgi models printed through a rapid prototyper and then cleaned and detailed by a real sculptor.

Well, there you go. I misremembered what he disliked.

Ya know, you said this in another thread, and I still don't know what you're smoking. The Phase II Enterprise was the basis for the ST:TMP Refit, and looks nothing like the E-E. As for pre-production, I have no clue which design you mean.

I agree with u,they must have been working a while to win the contract for the movie toys.a job well done, most figs had their own poses, but the art direction was unique indicating a talent from jj abrams and his team, not stock toys pulled out in an emergency.I feel paramount are really pushing this to make it work years to come, first impression of seeing the line was, this movie most cost loads!
