Trek authors - Kirk and Spock's first meetings(s)

Based on the comments I've read by Kurtzman and Orci about writing the sequel I'd say no.

I've been trying to ignore all the sequel talk/interviews until we're closer to the release date. Not been doing a very good job of it...

They haven't said anything specific about the plot (including if this movie will actually have one :rommie: ), just generalizations. However, I don't get the idea that it's something that they had in mind while writing the first one.

I wouldn't even say they've discussed generalizations. The only interviews with them along with the producers have really been about what their intention is for the sequel along with the tone of the film and structure they want is going to be (they've compared it to The Dark Knight), Khan has been repeated over and over as a possibility (I seriously doubt they will use Khan) but that's about it, oh and they're aiming to start filming next spring. I think that covers what is known about the sequel.

There was one interview where they suggested that the villian may not be a who but a what. That sort of thing.

I suspect the only reason Khan keeps being mentioned is because the reporters keep asking about him. Too many reporters basically interview themselves and just manipulate the interviewees into giving them the narrative they've already decided on in advance -- they ask, "Do you think you'll do X?," the subject says, "Well, X is always possible but I can't say more than that," and the headline screams, "PRODUCERS SAY THEY MIGHT DO X!!" So a lot of the stuff that gets attributed to the interviewees is really generated entirely by the press.

My favorite part, paraphrased from memory:

In the Celestial Temple
SISKO: I can't come back. My place is here now.
KIRK: Please.
SISKO: Okay.

What?!? Christopher, are you saying that some reporters today try to shape & twist the existing facts to suit their predetermined narrative? I am shocked! SHOCKED, I say!!!

^It's more that they need to manufacture the illusion that they have something to talk about. Naturally, filmmakers in the development phase on a movie aren't going to tell anyone what it's about, especially if they haven't decided yet themselves. So there's really nothing to report. But the reporters need to fill column inches to get paid, so they ask leading questions and report the noncommittal answers as though it represented news.
