'Transformers 3' Casting, Rumors, Pics till release

Soundwave suffers the same flaw.

I think Megatron, Soundwave, Omega Supreme, Jetfire and Shockwave predated the Transformers toyline. Once they bought them into it they were stuck with the designs.

It can't avoid being nonsense.

The whole Robots in disguise ideal never really went very far (Dinobots hardly blend in) and their Cybertronian modes don't make much sense either (There were no vehicles on Cybertron)

Of course that far off future of 2006..... 5 years ago :D
The comics made the Dinobots make a little more sense, by having Shockwave come to Earth to find out what had happened to the rest of the Transformers, and having Teletran One release defense drones that were modelled on the skeletal remains of the indigenous life. Not great, but better than the cartoon.

I have a theory regarding some of the rest of this: the Quintessons made the Autobots and Deceptions to sell them, advertised as intelligent servants that could serve multiple purposes. Autobots were the domestic products line, which explains their personalities, the forms they took, and the lack of flight (in most of them). Decepticons were the military products. There was only one Creation Matrix. When the TFs demanded their freedom and the Quints were driven off of Cybertron, an Autobot ended up in possession of the Matrix, used it to upgrade himself, and acted as leader. For a few generations, this was fine - the TFs were just happy to be free, with the Autobots building their world, and the Decepticons going out to meet and negotiate with other civilizations. But eventually, the militaristic nature of the Decepticons came back to bite them in the butt, and they began conquering other civs, and tried to take over Cybertron. The Autobots, in possession of the Matrix, had the only means of producing new computer intelligences for new TFs - but the Decepticons rapidly gained control of all of the facilities for producing new bodies. They fought at a standstill for a long time, and then the work of harvesting energy that they hadn't been doing while fighting caught up to them. A bit of a truce regarding this was made, and large portions of Cybertron began having to go into an effective 'Sleep' mode, while the remaining power was concentrated amongst the ones that remained awake. Both sides wanted to harvest and control the power, but the Decepticons were less picky about enslaving or killing other species to do it, and thus gained a bit of an upper hand. And that is where the G1 series begins.

You're right, though - it still can't avoid being nonsense. Why do they need to talk to each other? I understand that they would need to be able to talk to their owners, but why talk to each other, when surely they have some advanced wi-fi? How can some of them shift mass in and out of nth space, if they have an energy shortage? - that's an energy expensive operation. (For that matter, Megatron has a cannon on his arm that can draw power from a distant black hole, according to his tech specs!) Why would they need to even come to Earth, when the magnetic torus of Jupiter would be a much better way to generate power?

You just have to remember what MST3K said to enjoy Transformers - it's just a show, I should really just relax. :)

I never got the idea of Megatron being a gun in his disguise form. I mean isn't the whole idea that they're robots in disguise? Oddly even the Decepticons follow this ideal even though by being bad guys they have no real reason to stay "hidden" like the good guys (the Autobots) do.

So Megatron's disguise is that of a giant gun?! Then if he wants to get around he needs to turn into a robot and then actually walk? Nonsense.

Well, in the Marvel run he was scaled for a human size, whereas in the cartoon he never seemed to shrink smaller than Transformer-sized hands (and even attached to jet mode Starscream once, no less ). Marvel Megatron relied on the Seekers for transportation in the early issues when he was in gun mode, as did Soundwave, and apparently he couldn't even fire without someone holding him (which seemed silly to me). Course, more than a few times we saw Spike either firing a gun or somehow being able to fire an Autobot gun. Humans are a lot more resilient in the TF universe apparently. :D

Why was he a Walther P38 anyways? Any connotations to him being a Nazi?

The version of the mold which was used in Transformers was based on a modified gun from The Man From U.N.C.L.E.. The original mold itself, which was from the Microman line, apparently had all of the extensions but these were not included in the Japanese branch of the Transformers line. All the extensions and stuff that Megatron had are virtually identical to the prop that was used for TMFU. The Japanese release did include soft pellets that Megatron could fire as well as a few extra accessories.

As for Galvatron, he very rarely ever used his pistol form. Cyclonus said that few Decepticons would be worthy to wield Galvatron did.

The Dark of the Moon novelization is listed on Amazon and ready for pre-order now. It's listed at 400 pages (which I think is longer than the previous two novels I'll have to check) and written by Peter David as was announced last year. Alan Dean Foster wrote the previous two novels and their prequel tie-ins.

There's a picture on some sites (such as Tformers.com) of what appears to be
Blitzwing, the triple-changer who turns into a Jet and tank

^And quite a bit of speculation that it's a fake. I tend to agree, due mostly to the model itself being lower detail and the design not complex enough for the typical Bayformer. Plus, as other commenters have noted, it follows the G1 design pretty closely, which none of the real movie Transformers ever have.

If anyone is interested, here's the discussion thread (with the possible spoiler pic right in the first post) over at Transformer World.

just been looking at TFW2005 and the modded Daytona cars are Roadbuster, Topspin and Leadfoot.

Topspin Roadbuster Leadfoot

so, they are Autobot Wreckers. Since the Wreckers was a UK comics creation, I'm happy they're getting some movie love.

and apparently, Shockwave turns into a tank...

This is a minor story thing for me but are they even going to address Meleka's absence in the film? LOL. We go suddenly from the two of them finally admitting their undying love for one another and her essentially bringing him back from the dead to...oh hi Carly I love you now! LOL. Optimus looks awesome though.

^They did do some filming with Megan Fox before she got kicked out. So maybe they'll be some resolution.

I would be shocked if any of that footage was usable. For the fact that I doubt it contains any dialoge about breaking up + they'd have to pay her. I really don't think Bay wants to pay her anything.

I think Megatron, Soundwave, Omega Supreme, Jetfire and Shockwave predated the Transformers toyline. Once they bought them into it they were stuck with the designs.

The first two year's worth of Transformers toys (with very few exceptions) all came from other toy lines or previous lines that Takara had developed (such as Micro change and so on).

(There were no vehicles on Cybertron)
Not entirely true. Many portrayals of Cybertron have featured vehicles that can be ridden including an episode of the original series where Swoop, Spike and Carly were running around Cybertron and took a sort of "public transportation" vehicle to get around. In "Beast Machines" it was shown that Cybertron had train like vehicles used for transport.

Your point is taken however. The "disguise" element of Transformers is often ignored more for the sake of the robot having an alternate mode of some sort. Ironically, as much as the live action movies are berated, they use the disguise element quite a bit in the story (such as Barricade sneaking around and Frenzy's boom box mode).

Yeah I think Megan shot scenes for the first couple weeks of production then the whole thing between her and the production went down and she was fired. I doubt we'll see her in the movie at all. I suspect that this will take place one or two years after the second movie...the second took place I think two years after the first, maybe a year? I have to say that I'm looking forward to Peter David's novelization more than I am the film right now. If I enjoy the story I'll probably watch it lol.

Can't say I care for it... Same jumbled design as Optimus Prime (same colors even). Basically a larger Optimus with a beard.

Yeah I'm not sure what the obsession is with giving older Transformers beards to distinguish them from the younger ones. Seems lame and makes them look ridiculous.

I thought Jetfire looked cool :( ...the jokes they used were not. :borg:
