'Transformers 3' Casting, Rumors, Pics till release

i always hated it, actually.

cool toy, just a shit concept that the leader has to be held to shoot anyone in gun mode.

much prefer G2's tank version...

I always found it amusing...a measure of trust between Megatron and Starcream when Megs transformed into his alt mode, plus his personality in G1 is kind of like a gun too if you think about it. Violent and explosive.

Some interesting stuff from Toy Fair, mostly stuff we've seen before but some new stuff. It suggests that the big helicopter we see falling in the Super Bowl spot might be a Transformer itself (Silverbolt?). The Ark set seems scaled for the legends-class figures, which are the smaller less detailed ones.

Also there appears to be quite a bit of Skids merchandise, but not a lot of Mudflap.

"Leader Ironhide" = "I know what I'm buying for myself come May."

Oh, also, Ultimate Prime looks less goofy there then in the earlier pic. Still goofy, mind you, just not as much.

It was cool that it was life size in gun mode (I assume!) but it was a bit of a pain to transform, and prone to breaking.

Galvatron of course had gun and tank mode. How often was the gun mode used in the cartoon or movie? I don't recall it being used at all.

I'm remembering Galvatron as a laser cannon type thing...it's been a long while since I've watched the movie or the cartoon though.

In the last movie, we saw an "old man" decepticon with a beard and a cane, now we have one with a tarp that becomes a hood & cloak. That's pretty creative.

Yeah I suppose it was more a cannon than tank. A Cannon on wheels though ;)

The toy turned into a robot, a tank/cannon thing, and a hand gun. I owned one when I was a kid, it made sounds and the cannon lit up. I don't remember if the cartoon version turned into a gun like Megatron or not.

Galvatron turned into the small handgun mode a total of twice in Marvel UK's comics. Once to be transported by Cyclonus in his first story 'Target: 2006' and a second time to be carried by a fleshling in order to ambush the Wreckers (IIRC)...

dunno about the 'toon series. certainly not in the movie, though.

I never got the idea of Megatron being a gun in his disguise form. I mean isn't the whole idea that they're robots in disguise? Oddly even the Decepticons follow this ideal even though by being bad guys they have no real reason to stay "hidden" like the good guys (the Autobots) do.

So Megatron's disguise is that of a giant gun?! Then if he wants to get around he needs to turn into a robot and then actually walk? Nonsense.

Soundwave suffers the same flaw.

I think Megatron, Soundwave, Omega Supreme, Jetfire and Shockwave predated the Transformers toyline. Once they bought them into it they were stuck with the designs.

It can't avoid being nonsense.

The whole Robots in disguise ideal never really went very far (Dinobots hardly blend in) and their Cybertronian modes don't make much sense either (There were no vehicles on Cybertron)

Of course that far off future of 2006..... 5 years ago :D

^^ Yeah, I think that's the main problem, the designs make perfect sense from a *toy* perspective. A robot that looks like a gun or a boombox or a walkman? Cool. The cartoon being a cartoon was able to get away with the size shifting, hell, in the G1 the robot mode size varied from scene to scene, but it's harder to get away with in live action.
