Trailer Reaction...authors?

Yeah, Greenwood is Pike, and FYI that's him doing the VO while they show Kirk going to look at the Enterprise.

Yes, that was him doing the voiceover, despite him being nowhere to be seen.

That's right. He was nowhere, man.

(Insert appropriate groans here.)

Quinto looks so much like Nimoy in some of those clips it's uncanny

Even freakier is how he sounds like Nimoy with one of his lines.

There was an interview where, one of them I forget which, said that they were sitting at Nimoy's kitchen table talking. Nimoy's wife told them they had to knock it off because it was messing with her just how much they started to mirror one another's mannerisms, speech, ect. And they both had no clue they were doing it.

And, that was before filming even started.

Hmm... Absorbing another person's characteristics via empathy. Something about that is naggingly familiar.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

Do you have a link to that interview?

Also, does anyone know if Tyler Perry's scenes were cut because he wasn't anywhere in the trailer...

^ Well, Leonard Nimoy wasn't in the trailer, either, but I'm guessing he's still in the movie somewhere.

I was pleased that it "felt" like Star Trek. Sure, it's using modern technology, design and film making techniques but it looked good and got me real interested. As a result, I remain cautiously optimistic this will blow us all away.

I too am cautiously optimistic. I still don't really like the white/lite-brite bridge and corridors, but some of the nanoclips drew me in as much as 1.25 seconds of footage can. ;) I hope we soon get a trailer that gives us more than nanoclips, but I understand the urge to make a slam-bang trailer with loads of action.

I also hope that any serious leaps from established story elements are done for good story reasons and not on a whim (e.g., from The Lord of the Rings, Denethor being able to run, oh, about a mile and a half while on fire so that he can leap dramatically off a cliff. Come on, the book scene was dramatic enough, and with the added benefit of being believable/possible/not laughable.)

Re Paul McGillion:
At about 1:10-1:12 into the trailer, he's the instructor talking to the group of cadets.

Maybe Robert April? ;)

No, because that's definitely not Bruce Greenwood. ;)

Jeez, am I more up-to-date on the cast than you, Ian? :wtf:

And I'm wrong. *facepalm*

I chalk it up to a crappy week that has included injuries, stress and working 12 hour days every day since last Wednesday (including Saturday and Sunday). I read Robert April and thought Christopher Pike. *facepalm*

Wasn't there a split second scene with him? I saw an older guy in a yellow uniform sitting in what looked like the captain's chair during a battle.

Feel better and get some rest

Yes, I know, but I was referring to the scene with the V.O., and the joke was obviously pretty lame because nobody (apparently) got it. :)
