Spoilers Trailer for 1x08 "Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum"

They don't seem overly aware or concerned about the Admiral so I it wouldn't make as much sense for the crew to grieve her as such.

Right, because we saw a whopping 30 minutes of their day last episode, which is totally indicative of how much they care or don't care about the Admiral. For all we know they were told to sit tight until Starfleet got intel as to where she's being held.

I swore those thirty minutes were played over and over and over and over, lol. Not one version shed a tear for her..

In those thirty minutes, which kept getting reset over and over. During a ship crisis where someone was trying to take over their ship. Oh man, what a bunch of heartless people.

They didn't know for most of each 30 minute repeat and by most of them that they were in crisis.. regardless if they had the time to ponder the fate of 10,000 souls which showed they have the capacity to care.. I can't see why some continuity to the Admiral might not have slipped in somewhere in the episode. Tyler could have given some lip service. We saw more than 30 minutes we saw versions and versions..

However my point was more to do with guessing who or what Lorca is referring to in the next episode.. reference grief. I just don't get the feeling the crew would be necessarily grieving Cornwell more like someone they know better. Of course the writers could quite easily have them bawling over the Admiral given their previously shown 'caring'.

The Gagarin is not a new name to Star Trek. There was Gagarin IV and the USS Yuri Gagarin, both from TNG 2nd season.

DIS has honored all three manned space programs.

I think it's more likely they can't save the Gagarin; losing a whole ship would probably be worthy of grief. But if they just witnessed the destruction of it (perhaps with Cornwell having transferred to that ship prior to the attack we see), maybe that's why Lorca says what he does. To try to refocus their efforts.

I think he will make an effort if ordered. Just enough to cover his back. He'll be conflicted about it, but still prefer her to not come back. Do you think it's Saru who has Ash in a choking grip? If it is, I think he's inhabited by something which temporarily turns him predatory. And for him it will be a revelation, something he can learn from. Or at least will allow him to sometimes get over those bouts of fearful paranoia which might affect his job.

I was actually surprised to see that it's this episode that we see the landing party in a forest, and not the next episode, "Into the Forest I Go" -- unless they're still in the same or similar environment in that episode as well.

Two parter, maybe? (crossing my fingers)

I was actually assuming the forest was the one on the ship were they were growing spores.
