Trailer 3 Discussion Thread

I just finished watching the first six episodes of The Tick which is rated TV-14. They said "fuck" multiple times in probably 4 of the 6 episodes, and one episode had some brief graphic violence. Really curious about how Discovery ended up with a TV-MA. Regardless, I'll probably still let my 8 and 6 year-old watch. They watched The Tick with me.

Could it be that CBS is the network of such Grandparent friendly shows as The Price is Right and to a certain extent every police procedural spin off in the last 15 years?

Has anyone tried asking Harberts or Berg, or any of the other writers about the rating? I know people like that are busy and don't respond to every fan question on social media, but you never know.

The rating isn't decided by the writers anyone on the network.

Could be. Honestly, I was surprised that The Tick didn't get TV-MA for as much as they use fuck.

Nope, in the US television ratings are decided by the monitoring board. http://www.tvguidelines.org/board.htm
Yes, but UNLIKE the MPAA board - they don't actually watch each episode and assign a rating:
The Monitoring Board is responsible for overseeing the TV Parental Guidelines and for working to ensure uniformity and consistency in the application of the guidelines. The Monitoring Board does this by reviewing complaints and other public input and by facilitating discussion about the application of ratings among members of the Board and other relevant industry representatives. The Monitoring Board typically meets annually and additionally, as necessary, to consider and review complaints sent to the Board, discuss current research, and review any other relevant issues. In addition, the Board facilitates regular calls among industry standards and practices executives to discuss pending and emerging issues in order to promote ratings consistency across companies.
Essentially they talk to the Standards and Practices people (the ones who do give notes and suggest a final rating) of each production company - and meet at least once a year (and occasionally more)to review ratings complaints sent in by viewers.

DId you even read your link. That board meet ANNUALLY to review complaints and monitor compliance and consistency. They do not set ratings for individual series or shows.
