You really wouldn't confuse this iteration of Harry Mudd for Roger C. Carmel's version, but Rainn Wilson still manages to retain the air of faux-nobility that the Mudd charatcer should have.

EDIT: I think the biggest difference is, without the broad-brimmed hat and or the handlebar mustache, this version of Mudd comes across as less of a dandy.

You know what I love though? He's got a bit of a confederate western vibe to him. Wagon Train to the stars...

A fan interpretation that a friend and I used to have for the "time barrier" thing was that over a certain warp speed (Warp 7) certain time dialation factors are completely negated.

RAMA, this is the Shenzhou, not the Europa. You can tell if look at the shot of the ship raising up past the Delta shield drawn in the sand.

The Discovery is my least favorite ship seen. Not because it's bad, but the others are so good!

I certainly find myself preferring the other two by quite a margin.

The warp effect is real nice. It's like a cross between the warp effect used in TMP and TWOK, but speeded up.

Do we know anything about the Discovery or it's crew?

The captain gives my Captain Nemo and Section 31 vibes. But you know, the ships called Discovery, so I can't see that.

"You're mad!"

"I'm Mudd."

This looks really good. I hope it lives up to the hype.

It looks nothing like the world of TOS. Not just the look, but the technology is completely wrong too. Forcefields of the kind seen here are the stuff of TNG and VOY. I don't mind one bit, I'm going in assuming a reboot more influenced by the recent Trek movies, but others I'm sure will.

Yes, but unlike the Kelvin Timeline movies it won't be re-writing the story outside of visual changes.

As someone who followed the Trekmovie.com Twitter feed during the Discovery panel, I really wish we would've heard more about the Klingons. Honestly, I'm just as curious about them as I am with the Starfleet stuff, if not more so.

I have a few minor quips with this trailer, but my main concern is Sonequa Martin-Green. Not sold on her acting ability at all. She's very one-note in everything I've seen her in and again doesn't come off convincing in this.

Also, the song they play in the second half of trailer is out of place.

Well, this certainly looks fun. And they weren't joking when they said no one was safe, that perfect little bubble of plot safety has officially been popped.

I thought she did well, and the song fit.

Not according to the comic-con panel.

Common sense says otherwise.

I think her expressions in the first trailer often looked goofy and awkward (trying to look Vulcan?), but in this trailer she seemed alive at least. That's progress. I'm more hopeful now, maybe she'll pull it off. ;)

What is this "time barrier" that somebody mentioned here? Is it mentioned in the trailer?

No. The story is supposed to be based on a piece of TOS lore. We're just conjecturing it is the time barrier mentioned in "The Cage".
