I started getting back into Star Trek a few weeks ago, and it's had the indirect effect of reawakening my interest in 3D modelling as a hobby.
I started doing it years ago when I was a kid, but never really stuck with it long enough to finish any projects. I thought I'd re-teach myself Lightwave by trying to model the old TOS Enterprise as an exercise, as it has a good mix of curves and straight lines, and frankly I just really like the old ship.
Anyway, I've been working on this like a mad scientist over the last few weeks, and since it's the reason I originally joined this board I might as well share some pics of my progress. So here goes:
(please excuse any weird rendering artifacts)

I think I've re-modelled every part of this ship at least three times each, and that's without counting the work involved in for instance joining the neck to the seco hull, but aside from a few proportional/positional tweaks here and there I'm mostly done modelling it.
I need to add light bulbs, windows, and texture it, which are sort of uncharted territory for me.
But the most time consuming part so far has been working on getting the glowy domes on the nacelles to look right. I've still got some work to do on them as far as the way the lights sparkle, but I think I've at least got the look of the domes right.
Wish me luck...
