It looked nothing like him other than the fact it was some Chinese-looking dude
I assumed it was the same people trying to kill Jack, and that guy who went boom was American
Fairly average at best overnight viewing figures in the UK for Ep 1 of 4.8m viewers. It won its slot, but the ominous news is that 800,000 viewers who were watching at the beginning were not watching at the end, which is rare for the premiere of a BBC1 primetime drama. Apparently, the last time this happened was Outcasts, and we know what happened to that.
Timeshifted figures should add at least 1.0m-1.5m extra viewers to the final numbers.
Whether it is the fact that it is shown in the U.S. six days ahead of the UK and is therefore available through "other means" that has had an effect, or people just don't like the new setting, we'll have to wait and see. There is the possibility that like with Doctor Who, timeshifting may boost the figures to a level which is excellent, but the decline in the live audience is something to worry about

Please, please, please kill off Mekhi Phifer's character. He's so completely and utterly awful, to the point that it's making me actively not want to watch the show just to avoid him. I know a large part of that is your fault rather than his, but the damage is done.
And yes, we get that Gwen is Welsh. For fuck's sake, stop shoving it down our throat, you ham-fisted hack of a writer.
Oh, and P.S.: Please quit trying to make everything urgent, especially when its only the background music. It was tedious enough during your stint on Doctor Who when everyone was running everywhere for no particular reason. It's downright old and tiresome now.

Just watched it. Thought it was bloody awful - other than that spectacular beach and Jack using Owen's name. I loathed in CoW that the Americans came into the UK and took over the government and I hate here that the CIA seem to have made up some new rule that allows them to stand on a UK street and take everyone over to the US.
Usually I'd be delighted to see him in a new show, but he's playing such an arrogant asshole that I'm looking forward to seeing the character die an extremely painful death.
Um... Owen has been dead for a couple of years now.
Oooh you made my day, he's not like coming back, hes completely dead, no time portals or rift anomalies...
He died in the middle of series 2, was undead for the rest of the series and then was vaporised in a nuclear melt down.
I enjoyed it a lot. I don't think it was as good as Children of Earth's opener and there was a fair bit of exposition for the benefit of the American audience, but this was fair enough and they didn't do any more than they had to, IMHO. I enjoyed Mekhi Phifer and Bill Pullman (as always) and I'm looking forward to seeing Lauren Ambrose next season. Barrowman was great as Jack as always (this is now the only thing I can tolerate seeing him in but he makes up for all those annoying reality and talent-hunting shows he does) as was Eve Myles as Gwen. Nice to see her husband back - I wondered if he might have been lost in the trans-Atlantic move. Incidentally, how are American viewers coping with the Welsh accents?
The premise for this season is arguably just as good as that for COE and it'll be interesting to see if they can maintain the quality across twice as many episodes as that season.
