Great first episode. Certainly a step up from previous episodes in terms of production and story telling, though helped enormously by the format!

Fantastic shocks from about 10 minutes to the end.

All this and a Twin Peaks reference too. :)

^Yeah that was funny. Loved Gwen's "The technical term is a gizmo." and I did not see the Rupresh angle coming! The whole Jack/Ianto coulple thing was cute too.

I know I haven't at time's been RTD's biggest cheerleader, but that was an exceptionally well written episode. Crikey it's like John Wyndham's been reincarnated as a gay Welshman

Astounding work. Could be... a show moving to BBC1 and NOT getting worse? This format could yet be the salvation of Torchwood.

All the highlights involved Ianto so no change there from last year. I wonder if the stolen car point will become very relevant later in the week? Seeing their families was very interesting, but Jack's daughter called it right when she told Jack how bad it was that he only came round to see Steven due to the alien threat.

I've stayed completely unspoiled on the whole mini-series, so everything was a shock to me. I really thought Rupesh was going to be the new doctor come Friday evening!

And, as a Welshman, I did chuckle a lot at the Severn Bridge lines. That is EXACTLY how people talk about it around here!

Rating this is going to be very difficult - we should have had one thread for the whole thing I think.

Great first episode, and it's only 23 hours until the next one instead of a whole week! Hurray!!! :)

So far so good, a couple of jarring moments, Jack suddenly has a daughter & grandchild out of no where, that was strange a couple of actors (Iantos sister, and the new girl at the Home Office) reminded me of other Doctor Who characters, maybe they are , I dont know yet.

So far plenty of nice seeds being sowed, and despite his appearing on the Casualty set, I was surprised by the fact the Doctor was more than he seemed. Still plenty more to look forward to. Torchwood seems to finally be hitting the excellence that previous series have missed.
on now I am around *cough*nerds*cough* I can go a bit more depth.

Iantos sister reminded me of the woman in Parters in Crime who had the Adipose, and Lois reminded me of the journalist who was looking into Adipose Industry's again in Partners in Crime.

cant wait to see how Jack survives being blown up by a bomb, but ive seen too much so I supsect I already know, I just hope it doesn't take him out of action for too long

Well we can rate the individual eps then always do a roundup at the end of the week :)

I hadn't thought about the car, but you might be right!

He's survived stepp radiation at the end of the universe and clinging to the outside of a TARDIS as it flew through the time vortex...one little bomb isn't going to stop Captain Scarlet...er I mean Jack!

THAT'S who she reminded me of. I've not seen PiC since it aired no wonder I forgot her.

Capaldi only needs to be SJA for the hat-trick now. And frankly he can be in whatever he wants cos I love that man. He does have a blank page to wreck my favourite alien-busters though...

yes but none of those things were physical, in theory Jacks body should be split in to two large parts and few hundred smaller ones.

I was still left wondering, what is Sarah Jane doing during all of this

The guy exposed to radiation before Jack in Utopia was vaporised!

Jack's fine - there was a shot of his bloody and mutilated face at the very end of the trailer for next we... tomorrow!

"All the children in the world have stopped" is very much something SJ would be interested in, you'd imagine. But then again Torchwood didn't care when she was stopping the Moon hitting the planet, so why should she get worked up over this? I imagine she doesn't like people swearing either so we won't be seeing her this week.

So it all started in Scotland, huh?

Anyone else think we could get a glimpse of the Scottish branch of Torchwood? :D

I always thought there should at some point be a spin-off sequel series to Torchwood, set in its Glasgow branch - appropriately enough the show could be called "Torchwood Two". :bolian:

^

"Mum, why have Clyde and Rani stopped moving."

"It's probably nothing!"
as ive said before, looking at the age of the kids involved I think Clyde & Rani are too old to be effected, they are teenagers not children.

moving on, I really like the speech the Doctor gave about how people are reacting to all the alien invasions, it makes the Whoverse seem much more real when you hear that kind of thing.

They could just say that Sarah Jane is off planet, and tease us fans with a very interesting unseen Sarah Jane Adventure
