I'd list some highlights... but it would be a much shorter list if I just wrote the things that WEREN'T highlights. I'm not sure I've ever seen anything so grim on TV.

Got to wonder though - why did Dekker act like such a twat? Why didn't he help? Why was the PM such a dick full-stop? And why was there never any show of aggressive counter-action by the Earth against the 456?

Matt Smith is going to have a hell of a time cheering Jack up if he runs into him next year.

Well, not an RTD kitchen-sink finale after all!

Overall, still an 8/10, and it's very hard to see where the series can go from here, on a number of levels. I guess that was the intent though, since on BBC1 it's renewal will be more at the mercy of the (impressive!) audience figures.

Frobisher's fate disappointed me - he could have had some redemption, but crapped out like the little shit he ultimately was.

Dekker wasn't as mysterious after all. I laughed like a loon when wotsername kneecapped him to stop him yapping. Best thing she did in the whole series.

So Jack sacrificed his own grandson, eh? Not that there was much choice, but it's impressive that the production team went that far in prime-time, rather than write the story to have some more palatable choices.

You'd think everyone in the PM's meeting room would be black-bagged about five minutes after the news got out.

But overall, yeah, this is Torchwood as it should have been all along.

But what am I going to watch now that it's finished? All right, there's Psychoville and The Wire, but then sod all till The Waters Of Mars, whenever that is.

No Jack then no more TW in my opinion but TBH I don't want anymore 13 episode seasons I would love to see TW carry on with another 5 part story and for Doctor Who to try something similar during Smith's reign.

Never thought BSG was depressing, bleak sure, but they never reached depressing. Where as many British Sci-Fi shows have, and tonight there was definitely depressing moments in this.

S4 does seem unlikely, but it could still happen, Jack just needs time to himself, alot of time. He can come back when he is ready, meanwhile Gwen & Lois I guess are taking over Torchwood duties, if Torchwood even exists now, typing it yes I think this is the end of Torchwood.

anyways during the episode, I started to wonder "would the tradgey be that the government pull this off, and not a big fuss is kicked up" but Jack made the decision no one in government would make, to sacrifice his own family, not just the loss of his grandson, but his daughter would never speak to him again. Jack really does not need someone like Johnson on his shoulder, didnt we already know that Jack would make this choice? he has made a similar choice twice now (1965 & Smallworld)

as for the government, im not sure why the female MP is so quick to take power, she is hardly innocent all of this, we dont know the impact of what Spears did but I think we should assume she did it.

TBH as much as I feared RTD would give us a reset button, I fear that come the Doctor Who specials & S3 of SJA, people are just going to continue to act like aliens are the bogeyman, deep in denial.
