Tora Ziyal has cancer

I'd prefer something more romantic... a story of eyes meeting across the ward, the doctor coming over to speak but then the nurse with the tea trolley comes through and gets in the way... :)

Well, people have a tendency to come on to their health care providers....

^I'm sure some do. But the health care providers are the ones who have a code of ethics that they're required to follow, not the patients. And, in the incident I referred to, the nurse was promptly fired.

My God, Tora, You've had a run of it, haven't you? Your courage in the face of all that's happened to you is an inspiration.

You're in my thoughts and prayers ...

Yes, I sure have had a run of it! Thanks for the kind words; I'm more courageous some days than others.

(Yes, folks, a double post, because I just noticed this one that I missed before and I'm too lazy...)

As well he/she should have been. But for sexual assault--I think some jail time would be in order, too. And if it were MY country, let's just say the Louisiana penalty for rape would be back in place and no one could challenge it. (By that I mean a coercive/unwanted act, though, not a couple of teenagers where one was--in my state--16 and one was 18 and there was no coercion.)

That's what I couldn't stand about "Chrysalis" (in addition to the horrid, stupid singing scene): Bashir's TOTAL violation of medical ethics. He took advantage of Sarina in the worst possible way. (And he should've known better after the cruel way Jadzia Dax used to manipulate HIS emotions and use her greater age against him!) Honestly, the Jack Pack NEVER brought anything good out of him.

Well, that was assault. I'm talking about people getting involved. And we had students and residents, who, being young, don't have the will power of more mature providers.

Reminds me of some of the stories one hears in corrections about officers and inmates getting involved. Or the correctional psychologist who helped her inmate-lover escape. :sigh:

Well, I'm not talking about doing anything illegal, but, yeah, I've heard of several inmate-guard pairings. I guess pretty much any time people are thrown together, love will blossom. :adore: :rommie:

^Yeah, I guess it will.

BTW, I didn't mean to imply that the medical provider-patient pairings were illegal like officer-inmate relationships. But ethically they're very close. As are pastors-parishioners and teachers-students.

Yeah, any type of relationship like that is questionable. On the other hand, sometimes it works out. Life is crazy.

Hi Tora Ziyal,

I'm very late to this, but I'm wishing you the very best of luck and a lot of courage in this whole ordeal.

And rest assured, even in Belgium MD Anderson and MSKCC are known for their good reputations!
(ok, it helps that I work in the field and have collaborated with doctors from there)

:)

You think?!

Yes, courage. :sigh: I'm trying.

Although we talked about MD Anderson and Sloan Kettering in the thread, where I'm actually going is Johns Hopkins. I suspect that you've heard of them, too. ;)

Thanks for the encouragement. If you're willing to talk about it here or in a p.m., I'd be interested to know what kind of work you do...

I just noticed that AriesIV hasn't logged on for over a week. He was supposed to be getting out of the hospital (you know, the one w/ the gourmet food service). Anybody heard from or about him?

My nephew just had his back surgery done at Johns Hopkins. Great hospital! His surgery was for scoliosis- a bad case. I saw his "before" X-rays- his spine looked like an "S".

I'm glad he had a good experience there and hope he's recovering well. My back's hurting, just thinking about your description.

Yeah, he lost almost three inches in height when the scoliosis developed. He's gotten it back. He still has pain, but it gets better as time goes by.

My sister is convinced it happened because his high school band director always made him march with the really big bass drums. He was still growing at the time and that really did not help his back.

Hmm. Could be.

Unfortunately, I can relate to the height loss. Aside from the tumor, I have a compression fracture and a couple deteriorating disks in my spine, and I've lost two inches in the past couple years.

Yes, I know Johns Hopkins but I've never worked with them. ;)
Yale, yes, but not JH.

In any case, go go go! :)
*waves pompoms*
