Tora Ziyal has cancer

It's just that with your psych history, and the likely grogginess/confusion many people experience in the immediate post-operative phase, it makes good sense to have all-female staff

Exactly, grogginess is the whole issue! I'll be fine when I'm wide awake.

^Candles are excellent. Going by that question and the style of cross on your avatar... Are you Eastern Orthodox?

So we won't hear any news for a week? :(

Let's try again: One night in ICU, then a regular room for a week. I can have my iPad in the regular room. So... depending on my energy, you may hear from me in a couple days.
Oh, yes, you did say that, didn't you? :rommie: Well, that's good.

I would not be surprised if that logic ran through the back of someone's mind, esp. since you didn't raise it as an issue yourself. It doesn't really cost them much to do so (as many nursing staff are female anyway, so shift reorganisation would be minimal, if at all), and is good from both a clinical perspective and a medico-legal perspective. That joined-up contingency-planning/thinking is a mark of a good organisation looking after you.
Possibly they even care. :vulcan:

Yes, I did say it. And you were so devastated by the thought of even a couple days w/o my charming presence here, that your mind blew it up into a full week. :p

That, too. Definitely. It was obvious just from talking to the nurse manager.

One consistent thing about you is that you really are an irrepressible optimist! That may not sound like a massive achievement to other readers here, but that's because they don't realise how rare that is after working in health care. Most develop either frazzled neuroticism or despondent intellectual laziness, while I am lucky enough to be part of the small but not insignificant subset that settles for light-hearted amusement and co-existence with reality. Actual optimism though? Worth remarking upon! :D

Thank you. I do consider that a compliment. :D After working in two urban hospitals for over 22 years and now in health insurance for over two years, I have seen how it can wear people down. I try to maintain that element of amusement, too, along with the optimism.

Hopes prayers and good thoughts for everything to work out well....

I'll second that. How are you doing Ziyal?

Thanks. How I'm doing depends on which hour you ask...

Someone's coming to visit and help me get some stuff done around the house (I don't want to come home to a dirty one!) today, and the friend who's taking me to the hospital is arriving midday tomorrow, so I won't be alone much between now and then.

The fact that I'm seeing that as a good thing says I'm kind of shaky.

Well, you're not alone in spirit as long as we're all here. :) I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say we're genuinely invested in this. We're sending supportive vibes your way.

DN is proof that deranged can be a good thing. ;) I'm still sending positive vibes your way, and I was pleased to read about the hospital making sure you have all-female staff when you wake up.

Yeah, that's awesome. The next time I have to go into the hospital I'm going to ask for all-female staff, too. :bolian:

Yup. Specific flavor: Russian. :)

I was raised Catholic like my father's family, but my mother's family was Russian Orthodox. As a kid, I loved it -- got to celebrate Christmas twice every year!

That must be a cool circumstance.

Personally I find it interesting that everyone was 'raised catholic.' Its really sort of a cultural thing I gather. I wouldn't know, being a Calvinist.
