Too much Klingon dialogue with subtitles makes me sleepy

There's too much subtitles with Klingon talk. It's been well established in the star trek universe that we should hear them in English thanks to the universal translators. Once in a while they'll have alittle Klingon talk like during Kirk's trial in Star Trek 6 but then they switch to English for the sake of the audience. Reading subtitles for large portions of the episode makes it drag. Plus these Klingons sound like whiney children when they try to speak in Klingon. Why are they doing this to us? Trying to appeal to the people that own the Klingon dictionaries or what?

From what those working on the series have said in interviews, we should get used to it. They are going be showing us a lot of the Klingons because they want us to understand and feel sympathy for their side of the cause. I'm really not sure why they thought this was necessary or desired by the audience. They talk as if Klingons are some little-mentioned species we barely see in any of the other series', and now is the time for them to take the spotlight, but that just isn't the case. We have seen plenty. I'd already had my fill of the Klingons. When they switch to the Klingon scenes I see that as an opportunity to use the restroom.

Maybe they're going for the whole "authenticity" thing, in which case I'd like to remind them this isn't Gustavo Fring speaking Spanish, it's the Klingons from Star Trek.

They speak slow because of the subtitles! If they spoke at a normal conversational pace the text would flash too quickly on the screen for a lot of readers.

Or, maybe some cultures and individuals speak slowly. I think Kor actually spoke more quickly than other Klingons we've seen so far.

Perhaps they're trying to copy shows like Game of Thrones use of foreign tongues like High Valyrian or Dothraki. It is an unfortunate approach on their part. Then the few times they do speak English it's bad English. Are they pretending the universal translators don't exist anymore?

It's funny you mention this, because I had no issue following scenes which were subtitled in GoT. Of course if they were sticking to the conventions of the books, all of the Essos scenes would be in foreign tongues, which they clearly did not do.

It'd be okay if they kept the dialogue simpler, but having these intricate soliloquies and stuff in the Klingon language is too much. Honestly, I'm beginning to think they should just do what they did in silent movies and have the Klingon dialogue on separate cards that are inserted onto the screen. Or hell, just turn the Klingon scenes into silent movies with some sort of Klingon Charlie Chaplin or something.

Traditionally? In how many movies/TV shows have you seen it done that way? Five maybe? Ten at most?

Tbh I don't mind. I never watch anything without subtitles anyway. Some types of English accents are still difficult for me to understand and I dislike losing small details. And I'm fond of written dialogue too. So having to read the Klingon dialogues is a walk in the park for me.

Now, about the concept of showing Alien species speaking in their native languages among themselves, well, I kinda dig it. It's weird and different. If I'm not mistaken they did this very briefly in DS9 with the Vorta or the Jem'Hadar, I can't quite remember. Having it as a permanent feature for the Klingon scenes is cool as hell, IMO.

Seems more like "you" problem than a "Discovery" problem.

Also one thing that bugs me is in Star Trek, Klingon females have always been portrayed as just as aggressive and warriorlike as Klingon males, and in Discovery the only Klingon female is very submissive and fawning over a man.
