Too many TOS novels?

Way too many TOS books set during the five year mission - they must have been having a major event every day or so...

Honestly, that doesn't bother me. It's like wondering where the Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew found time to investigate all those mysteries. Long-running series tend to defy realistic time constraints!

And plenty of the books begin with "We just finished a three week period studying this rare nebula."

Maybe Kirk makes all of that up. ;)

"I'm afraid we won't have time to survey the Turquoise Nebula, Mr Spock. There's a situation brewing in Sector 452, and I want us smack in the middle of it by tomorrow. Tell you what, put a two-week survey in the log, let it replace that business with the Giant Space Chicken. No need to let Command hear about that. While we're on the subject, is Epsilon Delta Six still on fire?"

No need to cause too many ulcers for the Admiralty...

You thought of pitching comedy TOS to S & S ?

Can't he send out shuttles for the survey/observational work while the Enterprise goes to deal with the hot spots?

You guys are aware that we already got a warp-capable Giant Flaming Space Bird in New Frontier #4? It hatched out of a planet and then laid it's egg in the Excalibur's warp core.

Just another day in outer space...

As the Giant Space Chicken has won the hearts and minds of the forum, I will update my entry, "Chicken", in the Miscellaneous Forum's database thread accordingly:

Chicken (n):

Comical yet tasty bird native to KFC. Unprocessed form resembles miniature baseball mascot. May lay eggs, unless actually a cock - if so, cook the bastard. Known associates include Goosely Loosey and chips. May be eaten both before and after it lives; consumption during life not recommended. Taste described as similar to all known foods, particularly those newly sampled.

Unusually invested in reaching the other side, yet remains less committed than the pig, being merely "involved". Long-running dispute with egg over precedence. Beware: what first appears a chicken may in fact be evil manifest. Known relatives include the turkey, the partridge (but not Alan Partridge), yellowbellies and other cowards, and The Transhuman Condition. Known subspecies include the Nugget and the Kiev. Distant relative of Tyrannosaurus, though marginally less impressive. Established psychological disorder concerning collapse of sky. Hypnotized by straight lines.

May be farmed or played; the latter more controversial. Beware oversized version - may wear disguise to look like human guys, but is not a man, is a Chickenboo.

I now insist on a TOS novel featuring the Giant Space Chicken.

First we have to have a TOS novel about a giant space worm and then we get a followup that has the giant space chicken trying to eat the giant space worm.

Strictly no story ideas in this thread please !

We have some pretty unscrupulous authors on here just waiting to steal such great plot proposals...

Sounds like something from X-Men and the Phoenix stories.
