Tons of New Kelvin Info! (Including crew pics)

Has anyone noticed that the Kelvin (Enterprise, and even the shuttles) has no apparent markings or reference to the "United Federation of Planets"? The ships look kind of barren with out it.

*Even though the UPF logo is seen in the construction shipyard

Could this be a subtle result of an altered time line?

Well the ships belong to Star Fleet not the UFP.

And I don't recall any ship having the UFP or the Star Fleet logo on it, just the red striping.

Where on the other ships from the TOS-, TNG-, and the movie era is a UFP-logo visible?

On the secodary hull, there was/is the markings/lettering for "United Federation of Planets" on the TOS Enterprise, all the way thru the -E
Such as this example: http://www.culttvman.com/assets/images-BENCH-2005/jpaynebeli04.JPG

Damn, I completely forgot about that. Oy!

But in the TOS-era there never were such markings...

It didn't have the wording, but it did have a stylized "retro" variation of the striping.

So where is this sort of detailing/marking on the new ships?!

I thought you meant the three large stars in the star field surrounded by the leaves.

I pointed that out to show that there is a reference to Starfleet in the movie, but doesn't seem to be any reference to UFP on the ships.

The 1701-D didn't have these markings did she?

Yup she did, on top of the warp nacelles.

And an abbreviated version on the bottom of the secondary hull.

EJD1984, please don't post inline images if they're not hosted on space belonging to you. It's discouraged under board policy and generally considered bad form. I'll be converting a lot of the ones posted above to links.

Those markings do not denote the UFP, they are Starfleet pendants and markings its just some ships have "STARSHIP JOLLY ROGER UNITED FEDERATION OF PLANETS" and some dont, in this case they dont.

Am I the only one that gets more of a Jim Kirk vibe from Chris Hemsworth than Chris Pine?
I don't get much of a vibe about Kirk from him, in part because he looks like some weird morph of Matt Damon and Kevin Bacon than William Shatner.

Why does the young Captain Kirk have to look like a 1960s pretty-boy with a hairpiece?

Why does a young Captain Kirk need to look like a 2000s ugmo with a genetic defect?

Not *that* altered.

I've seen pictures of other signs which clearly have the word 'Federation' on them. Besides, at the point at which Nero intervenes (AFAIK, it's the destruction of the Kelvin), the Federation has already existed for decades anyway.

"Ugly mofo". I'm more interested in an explanation of the "genetic defect" part he's put out there more than once already.

Yes, I think he should explain that.
Why does it need to be explained if it is an opinion?
If it's important enough to be stated on several different occasions as if it were fact, then why be cryptic about it? It sure doesn't make a great deal of sense unexplained.

I'm curious myself. I think Chris Pine as Kirk looks too young and somewhat comical, but I don't get the genetic defect part.
