Tons of New Kelvin Info! (Including crew pics)

Actually we have no idea where, specifically, that scene takes place. It could have been anywhere in San Francisco.

Well, we know that the crew splits up at the junction of Columbus, Kearny, and Pacific Avenues in San Francisco. Chinatown is practically right there, just a block or two to the west, where Sulu, Bones, and Scotty could walk in the few minutes while Kirk and Spock were trying to board a bus.

... who but real San Franciscans (which I obviously am not) would even recognize where that scene was in the first place?

Not a Midwestern boy like me... but I can Google the TVH filming locations and check Google Maps to learn their relation to Chinatown. :p

And forgive me if this has already been covered, as I haven't read through the entire thread, but are the Badass Captain Robau and Commander Kirk wearing blue uniforms? No, I'm not crying canon violation over this, but it does seem odd. Gold was the command colour in Archer's era, and is the command colour in Kirk and Pike's era, so it seems odd between these two eras Starfleet temporarily switched to blue. We shall call this the Badass Era, because Richard Robau is badass!

Im wondering if the 'blue' uniform is actually the grey one which has been thought of as being one of the costumes in the Academy pictures

What if in the Kelvins time there is still the gold, red and blue (or even the cage gold/mustard and blue) and the CO/XO get special uniforms?

I mean, who but real San Franciscans (which I obviously am not) would even recognize where that scene was in the first place?

When I was there on holiday this year I had constant fangasms walking round every location scene I could find.

The best place to have a 'Trek-Fan-gasam' in public, is in front of the Monteray Bay Aqurium.

I've done that on two occaisions and nobody even took notice.

Well...,
... actually,...
... my girlfriend noticed the second time, cause it was 3 in the morning and we were really steamin' up the car windows!

(She's a horn-dawg just like me):techman:

(we've steamed up the car window's at several of the Trek Location's... among other places...)

Maybe joining the Away Team ?

Or would that have to be with someone elses partner? :rommie:

No way ... I'm not having anything to do with this "Away Team" revisionism. I'm a TOS man, through and through! I'm going on a "Landing Party" or I'm. Not. Going.

;)

Yeah... I prefer 'LANDING PARTY' to 'AWAY TEAM' also...

I'd rather be cummin' in for a Landing than Goin' Away from the goal!

The former is so much more sexually suggestive then the latter. :techman:

My cousin got married there. The wedding altar was set up outside, right on the edge of George and Gracie's whale tank. It was interesting to see where they filmed Kirk discovering Spock melding with Gracie and the staircase he and Gillian run up to get to the tank. Really, there's nothing up those stairs but a second level to watch the waterfall. Everything is pretty much on the first level, including the outside balcony where the tank supposedly was.

Fun stuff.

Nice pics....I can't wait to see the new Enterprise in this format!

You know, even though I KNEW Kim from "Home and Away" was playing George Kirk, it STILL made me angry when I saw his picture.

For Americans, this would be like Susan Lucci being cast as Betsy Ross or one of your other highly vaunted female historical figures.

It is just REALLY odd.

Just as odd as Mel Gibson playing American characters

Not odd at all, really, since Mel *is* American (as is Susan Lucci). ;)

(seriously. Mel was born and raised in Peekskill, New York. You can look it up.)

Yeah, check above - I already stated Gibson was American. My point about Lucci was that it's a low grade soap actor playing apart that for some people is an important historical figure.

JoeZhang, I thought the images you posted looked a little short ... circles were about 90% high as they were wide on my screen. So I roughly scaled them and came up with this. I don't know if this helps folks feel the ship looks better, but I'm rather fond of it.

I think you may be putting too much into this whole "fangasm" thing.

Indeed. I visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium when I was in high school with the then-girlfriend's family. When we walked up to the building I said "This place looks very familiar. When we went outside to the reef pool that stood-in for George and Gracie's tank it clicked. I was suddenly much more excited to be there. (And I enjoy aquariums anyway) Everywhere we went I ran around looking at displays, hand-rails, tanks, etc from different angles trying to remember specific shots.

At one point I think I told the then-girlfriend. "OMG... Kirk and Spock stood right here."

She wasn't as impressed as I was.

Late to the thread, out of town and all that rot. I've mentioned my appreciation for the Kelvin design previously, so it was no surprise when my jaw hit the desk upon viewing these new pics. Just an absolutely gorgeous design.

And while I hate to bring the thread down, I have to agree with whoever made the point about "if the design aesthetic is good enough for the Kelvin, then it would have been good enough for the Enterprise" .

I had the pleasure of visiting the Monterey Bay Aquarium when they had props for TVH on display.

Has anyone noticed that the Kelvin (Enterprise, and even the shuttles) has no apparent markings or reference to the "United Federation of Planets"? The ships look kind of barren with out it.

*Even though the UPF logo is seen in the construction shipyard

Could this be a subtle result of an altered time line?
