Should further Trek movies (after STXI) or TV series rely on time travel to propel their story lines or should Star Trek return to more basic story telling?

I don't have anything against time travel, but I'm getting tired of it. The presence of time travel won't stop me from seeing STXI, but I'm hoping they move away from it for future (haha, there's an irony) projects.

I refuse to vote because of the given options. Just because you don't think Time Travel has been overdone in Trek, doesn't mean you'd want "Time travel stories galore".

As a freak of time travel I say let them have their fun. As a freak of time travel I say let them have their(correction) fun and games. As a freak of time travel I say let them have their(correction) McGriddle sandwich. As a (well, you get the idea).

Stop nitpicking. It's just a simple yes or no answer. Either Trek should continue with time travel storylines or abandon them for more traditional storytelling. I delibertely left out occasional time travel stories as an option to make a point. I want to see who is tired of Treks reliance on it as a story telling device.

BTW, I miss your constant avatar changes. I have several in the pipeline myself.

On this BBS?

There's no such thing as a simple yes or no answer. ;)

I picked "time travel stories galore", not because I really want to see that, but because I think that the presence or absence of time travel in a story is of secondary importance. Neither is a substitute for actual storytelling.

Would I want to see an inferior story, simply because it lacks a time-travel element? Of course not. Would I want to see an awesome story that features an element of time travel? You bet I would, every time.

If time travel is involved at all in a Series VI, that should be the main focus of the series: A 29th-century time ship policing the timeline. Kind of like the Relativity. They could even wrap up, once and for all, the Temporal Cold War:

Such as, explaining who exactly the hell Future Guy is. Perhaps he isn't a bad guy after all, but rather a 29th-century Starfleet officer following orders to make sure the timeline unfolds as it should.

Well, I object to the terminology 'galore', because nothing is good if it is done to death.

However, I have no objection to time travel stories, in moderation. I like time travel.

Doctor Who and Quantum Leap sorta have the market cornered in terms of time travel as a theme to center an entire show around, however. ;)

Why does everyone (OK not everyone, but some) focus on the word galore. The word changes nothing. It's a simple yes or no question. Time travel or no time travel. The point is should it be given a rest in Star Trek.

They focus on it because it completely changes that response from "Yes, I like time travel in Trek" to "I want time travel in Trek ALL THE TIME"

Personally, I didn't vote because my response would be that I don't care as long as the stories are good.

No it doesn't! It's a two question poll. Either there is time travel in Star Trek or there is not.

Time travel has been done to death by Star Trek. Every Star Trek television series had featured time travel in some aspect. The timeline should be so polluted by now it's not even funny.

Ive voted for Time travel, as theres no reason not to include it, if its a good story. (Eg: First Contact)

But I wouldnt want to see it just for the sake of it.

Thanks to mod StolenThunder the poll has been modified. The offensive word "galore" has been removed. Now it's just a choice between time travel or no time travel.

Well, I don't think it became as prevalent as some here think, so I voted for time travel -- so far, it's split 50/50. And I will vote the same way, time and time again! :bolian: -- RR

No worries.

Personally, I wouldn't want time travel to be gone altogether. I wouldn't want any show or movie to rely on it though.
