TNG Returns!

Recast Data. Find a good young woman actor to portray her.

If Spiner doesn't want to play the part, why not? I could see technology advancing enough that they could create another, updated, upgraded android body and downloading Data's bits and bobs into it. Perhaps, while on mission, Data suffered catastrophic injuries that left his body completely irreparable. Star Fleet just happened to be working on creating a new android prototype when this happened and in order to preserve Data, they are forced to download him into the new body, which just happens to be in female form. It works for me!

-Brent Spiner: come back to TNG as B4, the chance to return to the fold but with the excitement of developing a brand new character in B4-

Would they have him make toast?

Well, if all of the TNG movies (including Kirk's death) all happened inside the Matr...Nexus..... they just need to spring Picard and start with a clean slate. It could happen within the first 10 minutes.

No, if all the TNG movies are ignored, then there is no Nexus. Instead, the last time anyone saw the TNG crew was playing poker and warping off to some new adventure (I don't know who showed up later on either DS9 nor Voyager, nor do I really care about those).

You're missing the point, that it would be the in-universe explanation for ignoring the movies.

Even better would be him returning, only to find out that he HAD been instrumental in freeing Admiral Kirk (with an awesome Shatner cameo), who got out of the Nexus and is now Federation President or something, while Picard never realized that he had stayed behind to become an action hero.

Clean slate for EVERYONE. ;)

This is one option but another is to find away to bring Lal back as well or for him to create another daughter. Part of me would prefer it to be Data but if the actress doesn't do a good job it's going to have a negative impact on the character. Which I am not sure what a good version of a new Data would even look like. On one hand you would want to see him/her have some character growth which might be emotions yet at the same time you would want the character to also capture the essence of what made Spiner's version so great. Trying to recreate what Spiner did seems almost impossible since he was such a unique character.

Yeah, I tend to think that the tricky part of Data is entirely in the brain. The rest of him is probably almost 24th century Radio Shack stuff.

Oh no, I completely understand what you're suggesting. The Nexus is a stupid and contrived plot device whose sole purpose was to be a way of bringing Picard and Kirk together. A meeting, I might add, that should never have happened, in a movie that should never have been made, because both TOS and TNG had been wrapped up nicely. Generations pretty much undid everything TUC and All Good Things set up.

So, I reiterate: all TNG movies should be ignored.

And I continue to say, ignoring everything from the Nexus onward in my mind, is literally the equilvilient to what you are saying, but without throwing out the movies as viewing experiences; just canon fantasies that can funnel Stewart and Shatner straight into a clean slate / final movie or appearance.

Honestly, I don't want the whole cast back.

The only ones really needed full time are Georgi and Picard. The Crusher can be there too if she is married to Picard, otherwise she was useless for 7 years and 4 movies so I won't miss her.

Then have a younger cast of new characters we can fall for. Have the Titan show up in the season finale. Wolf can show up in his own Bird of Prey.

My problem with Star Trek is it's so unrealistic how much things don't change. Stargate always had promotions and changing of the cast and teams, it mainly worked.

As I've been arguing, that's exactly why this alleged series can be a success. NO ONE would be doing the same thing they did 30 years ago. Everyone has moved on. This wouldn't be a STVI type thing where, although they've moved on, they're put right back on the bridge of the Enterprise (where they're clearly out of place) for another adventure. Something else brings them together in a different setting.

Think Logan with the TNG cast (which fittingly had the one TNG cast member mentioned in the OP!).

I'm not a super hero guy so I have never seen Logan, and I didn't read all 8 pages, just the first and the last. But I'm right there with you. New cast, same captain, make it so. And if it's a TV series, vs online, the ratings would get bumped when the old cast made their guest appearances.

However I don't want a new Enterprise. It makes no sense the way it is that the Enterprise last 40ish years, A lasted like 10, B and C I don't remember, but then there was 26 years before a new Enterprise D, and then the E just get's replaced within months. I like to think it lasted the Dominion War and Picard refuses to let go of it, so Starfleet retrofitted it for him. So new sets explained by retrofit.

The Enterprise E had its first on screen appearance 22 years ago, more than enough time has passed to replace it, I'd like to see an Enterprise F and what happened to the crew after Nemesis.

Picard is most likely going to be the only returning character if not maybe just one other for him to have a contemporary. Everyone else will make guest spots at best. The rest of the cast will be new and young I suspect.
imagine that since its mini series they will probably focus primarily on the TNG cast and any hot young new crew (or next next generation crew) will be supporting. similar to the new XF

they bound to have a new Enterprise - maybe 1st ep will be similar to opening of Generations with TNG crew invited to the launch of the Ent F (which would resemble more the Ent D)

No, it'll be the Enterprise-E but just like Discovery's version of the 1701 It'll look entirely different inside and out.

Too me I think they will want a ship to look more like the Enterprise-D because of nostigic reasons. At least on the outside. It will be interesting to see how chaned the sets are. IMO they can dump everything in terms of sets except for the wooden security rail in the bridge. That needs to be brought back because peope will relate to that much better.

Ugh. The space ships are supposed to be boats. You telling me that just because a ship is 20 years old it's time for a new one? The Enterprise aircraft carrier lasted more than 50 years. The C-5 planes will be flying for probably 100+ years. The star ship Enterprise was 30-40 years old before being replaced. Excelsior class was twice that long. There is no need to replace the ship every decade. Hell it took 26 years for the D to get build after the C was destroyed.

I also hope the ship doesn't hold 1,200 people because there is no way to make sets that make sense with that, even with CGI now-a-days. It still drives me nuts that the Enterprise D sickbay is the same size as Voyager and that when there was a play only 25 people went and that was a full house on the Ent-D.

I don't actually think the show will be coming back, but if it does it needs to move on. You can't just pretend like nothing has changed for the last 20 years. That was horrible for X-Files and be even worse for Star Trek. 'Hey look, the E was retired and replaced with a ship that looks like the Enterprise D for some reason'.

The reason to replace the Ent-E is that we wouldn't want the designers to be pound to aesthetics designed 20 years ago. Or 30 years ago. It's okay to change the aesthetics, it's the storytelling style that I would want back.
