TMP-DE fully restored in 4K…it’s about time!

Paramount + in UK doesn't have it. I thought this was meant to be on the service?

I’m furious! I’ve been looking forward to watching this for months and it was the main reason I would have signed up. Why isn’t it on the UK P+? And why have they decided to keep the UK several weeks behind the US with SNW? There’s enough competition for streaming services as it is, and P+ has just made sure they don’t measure up. They should be offering as much value as possible instead of withholding things from different regions just because.

This is why, despite me subscribing to Disney, Amazon & Netflix, when it comes to stuff I care about like Trek it's physical media or nothing for me.

That's one way. Or you could purchase on iTunes, as I have. Don't always need physical media.

I’ve largely gotten rid of my physical media, upping my iTunes titles to currently around 360. As we are in the process of downsizing our stuff (getting ready for a sale of our house when things settle down with interest rates), I’m getting rid of about 20 more titles. Just keeping the impressive 4K discs and stuff that is hard to find. I have to admit that the 2022 TMP DE will be in my physical collection.

The first thing I wanted to watch was the TMP Directors Cut. I don't know why they would launch the Paramount + with such a slim library in general because it will lead to the service crashing and burning in the UK.

Oh wait I remember, Paramount are awful and that's why they are in massive debt.

I'm exactly the same, I'm waiting for the Blu-ray release this September of the restored DC of TMP but I was tempted to sign up to P+ in the UK for the free 7 day trial and try it before the Blu-ray release. Seemingly though there's no point as it's not there.

This makes no sense at all. Surely it can't be anything to do with licensing?

Paramount really don't seem to have a clue, but that's what you get when a company is run by a bunch of bean counters.

I was already intending to purchase TMP DC on iTunes at the very least, but…September still seems so far away. Which is why I was all psyched to watch it this week on P+!

I can only imagine that instead of giving us access to everything at once, they want to draw things out to keep people subscribed (in the same way we’re only being given 3 episodes of SNW instead of the 7 now released). I would have subscribed for a month or two, as well, but instead I cancelled my trial after 10 minutes.

P+, in the immortal words of Grand Nagus Zek:

They don't seem to realise that's not going to work with Trek fans of the older shows and, more than anything, it's going to seriously p*ss us off.

I don’t want them to crash and burn, just treat longtime fans with respect rather than trying to exploit us. Holding back on content available elsewhere just to get us to stick around longer is not cool.

I do wonder how this battle of streaming services is going to end, though. Given the economic downturn here, I don’t know how people will be able or willing to afford multiple streaming platforms from now on. I genuinely can’t see P+ doing particularly well.

In similar news, P+ in the US is apparently about to lose the rights to First Contact for awhile because of "pre-existing" contractual obligations. These deals are negotiated quite some time ahead, apparently. It's very frustrating.

Unfortunately until we get past all these legacy deals, this will be the case for awhile.

The problem is that another bunch of bean counters would just buy up the remains and create something even worse.
And? Perhaps this one will work better in some ways.

Unless you prefer the devil you know?

I'd rather it crash sooner rather than later and let people vote with their wallets rather than clinging on to something they insist is failing.

I don't suppose there's any chance that the restored TMP DE has magically appeared on P+ UK in the past couple of days? I'm not signing up just to check. :)

Nope, it’s just the theatrical. Why we should be satisfied to pay 6.99 a month for a service that has significantly less content than the US (still only 3 eps of SNW as opposed to 8), I don’t know. We’ll just have to wait until September I guess.
