Tin Man make me laugh today :)

Curious. It's said to have the following properties:
  • Eliminates Chronic Pain
  • Stimulates 344 points of pressure in the hand
  • Produces the same benefits of traditional acupuncture without a costly visit to the Dr. or the use of needles
  • Relieves fatigue, stress, insomnia
  • Promotes organ regeneration
  • Teleports individuals by mere thought
  • Emits deflector wave that can push any object light years away

I laughed when Tam busted Riker for thinking smack about him.

Also at the head they put they put on that Romulan comander.

I could be remembering this wrong, but I found it more humorous that just a few shots from the first warbird seemed to humble the Enterprise's shields.

^ Don't you know that the Enterprise's defenses have alternating levels of strength depending on whether its an odd or even numbered day of the week? On Mondays, they can hold out against a Borg vessel. But on Tuesday, a Klingon Bird of Prey run by Ferengi can take them out with about 3 shots.

:)

This thread inspired me to watch the episode again. It's still one of my favorites.

The only thing I don't like about the 5.1 sound mixes on the DVDs is that the music is too low compared to the dialogue. Episodes like this one, with outstanding cues (another favorite is Who Watches the Watchers?) suffer for it.

IIRC the Warbrid's defensive and offensive weapons (including the cloak) were neutered a bit due to the high-levels of warp they were going at in order to beat the Enterprise to the big space fishing plumb.

The acting in this episode is all off, mostly in the guy who plays the douchey other Betazoid. The whole atmosphere and mood of the movie is off and I'm not even sure I really cared for the music in this episode or how it was used.

But I'm supposed to be charmed, enlightened and happy at the end when the jackass Betazoid guy I've been hating for the last 45 minutes goes off to have a May-December relationship with a centuries old space butt-plug?

Ummm. Okay. I guess.

Wow you really didnt get this episode at all did you?

I believe Gomtuu was based on the Lectroid ship from Buckaroo Banzai as well as a peach pit. The episode was nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Special Visual Effects. The ship was essentially a visualization of: ..the science fiction short story "Specialist" by Robert Sheckley, published in 1953 in Galaxy magazine, it is revealed that many galactic races are actually capable of symbiotic cooperation to become bioships, with each race forming a different part. Earth, apparently, is one of the planets inhabited by creatures that are supposed to function as FTL drives (Pushers), and, it is stated that all the conflicts and discontent of humanity are due to the fact that, while they have matured, they have nowhere to apply their true purpose. This story is perhaps the first mention of a bioship in science fiction.[1]

A wonderful visualization I must say.

A very touching episode but what made me laugh was the bit when Tin Man used its weapon to push the Enterprise and Romulan Warbird out of the way of the dying star. Why is it that Picard and Riker were the only ones really affected by the push? Were the inertial dampeners only working only at the very back of the bridge lol. If you check the personal at the science stations they are just going on with the daily routine. Ok you could see the affect of "no" inertial dampeners where Worf was as he was holding onto his console. Poor acting by Dianna mind you. Wesley could not be bothered and the lady at operations seems to be not aware what was going on at all.

Something was a bit wrong there lol. :guffaw:

This also brings up the point in the episode Cause and Effect Riker had a massive case of loss of dampeners  Ok in that episode you can understand that the ship was damaged, systems were not working but nothing seemed to be amiss in Tin Man. :wtf:

There is more than one case where actors on the bridge apparently did not get the direction to move a certain way based on motion of the ship. Its a fairly minor blooper.

I think Marina did a good job of being affected by the jolt as well - we used to do a slide-show talk at conventions (almost twenty years ago) about the episode, and one slide was of this moment. There's Troi with her pony-tail thingie flying straight out, parallel to the floor as she tosses and whips her head about.

I didn't expect the audience to like Tam Elbrun. He wasn't a nice man. Empathy, though, is something different - there are even days that I can empathize with, oh, George W. Bush.
