Time to Date Yourself

Nomad V

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
My kids were watching TV after supper last night, Phineas and Ferb and they asked me if I watched it when I was a kid. I had to laugh and it did get me thinking about some of the shows that I watched as a kid. On the science fiction side I remember the following shows:

  • Paul Shannon's Adventure Time - Space Angel cartoons - their lips moved
  • Space Ghost
  • Fireball XL5 (The kids keep asking me why the DVDs aren't in color)
  • Stingray
  • Lost in Space
  • Star Trek
  • Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea
  • Time Tunnel
  • Land of the Giants (I thought this one kind of sucked)
I'd like to hear which science fiction shows you all watched when you were wee little ones.

I first saw all of the following in reruns, but still as a kid:

Twilight Zone
Star Trek
Johnny Quest
Space Ghost
Space: 1999
Lost in Space
The Outer Limits
One Step Beyond
The Herculoids

And first runs as a kid:

Battlestar Galactica (78)
Buck Rogers
Knight Rider
Airwolf
Six Million Dollar Man
Bionic Woman
The Incredible Hulk
Wonder Woman

Yes, I've watched a lot of TV in my life. :D

My earliest TV memory was watching The Starlost and Planet of the Apes, so we're talking about 1973.

Other shows I watched and loved as a kid in the 1970s:
The Six Million Dollar Man
Bionic Woman
Gemini Man
Man from Atlantis
The Invisible Man (the David McCallum version)
Buck Rogers in the 25th Century
Space Academy
Tarzan and the Super 7
Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons (reruns)
Thunderbirds (reruns)
Space 1999
Beyond Westworld
The Avengers (reruns)
The New Avengers

There were many others, as well. And I'm not even including the shows I got into once the 1980s started. Funnily enough, neither Star Trek nor Doctor Who are included on the list because I never really got into Trek until the early 1980s (though I did see TMP when it first came out) and Doctor Who until the mid-80s.

Cheers!

Alex

  • Fireball XL5 (The kids keep asking me why the DVDs aren't in color)
\

You should tell them what Calvin's dad told him in Calvin and Hobbes. That the whole world used to be black and white, and color wasn't invented until the 1950's.

..well, who else would date me?

That was my first thought when I saw the thread title too. :D

Er... about me, I mean. Not about you, obviously. You're probably lovely.

It's a great thread title. Love yourself! Hell, just own it and fucking date yourself!

The Invisible Man (David McCallum version)
The Gemini Man
Six Million Dollar Man
Bionic Woman
Blakes Seven
Battlestar Galactica
Buck Rogers
The Invaders (probably re-runs)
Star Trek (re-runs)
Space: 1999
Sapphire and Steel

Well, I like to think that the Marx's Brothers have an answer to all of life's little questions....not necessary the one that you want to hear but still...

First Run:
Battlestar Galactica/Galactica 1980
Buck Rogers
The Six Million Dollar Man
The Bionic Woman
Star Trek the Next Generation (I was 17 in 1987, but from my prespective now, that's still a kid)

Reruns:
Star Trek TOS
The Twilight Zone TOS
The Twilight Zone 1985-1988 series

I've seen all four of the Irwin Allen series, but didn't catch up to those until the Sci-Fi channel showed them in 1992, by which time I was 22. Of course, by my perspective now, THAT's also a kid. So, I guess you can also count Deep Space Nine and Voyager (ages 23, and 25 respectively).

TOS reruns
Doctor Who
Buck Rogers in the 25th Century
Battlestar Galactica (the REAL one)
UFO reruns

later on
TNG
Quantum Leap
Red Dwarf
seaQuest DSV
Time Trax
Sliders
X-Files
DS9

that's into me teens

without listing reruns (Trek, Buck Rogers, Lost in Space)...

Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future
BraveStar
Wheeled Warriors
M.A.S.K.
Silverhawks
V (probably at some point)

First Runs:

The original Battlestar Galactica
Buck Rogers
The Six Million Dollar Man
Bionic Woman
Dr. Who--the Tom Baker years
Battle of the Planets--the G-Force cartoon from Japan
Space: 1999
Voyagers
V: The Miniseries

Repeats

Lost in Space
The Twilight Zone
Star Trek: TOS

When I was a teenager:
Blake's 7
The Prisoner
Star Trek: TNG

The Lost island.
The Tomorrow people.
Dr who.

Did not see much TV as a youngster, plus there was not much on anyway, mainly after school did you see the odd TV program then it was out and about.

UM...if this is only about scifi shows we watched as kids, shouldn't this be in the scifi forum?

Well there was the Captain Cosmic show that played all the Japanese monster serials:

Ultraman
Spectreman
Space Giants
Johnny Socko

The Standards:
Star Trek
Buck Rogers
Battlestar Galactica
Doctor Who
Twilight Zone

Some that haven't been named:
Space Academy
Jason of Star Command
StarBlazers

Starfleet
Doctor Who
Blake's 7
Space 1999
Star Trek TOS
Buck Rogers
Battlestar Galactica 1978
Transformers

Those were the big ones that pre-dated TNG.

Well, if we are talking purely about scifi-ish sorts of thing, I remember:

Star Trek (first run)...although admittedly I was too small to remember anything much other than the fact that 'McCoy was really mean to Spock', and so I didn't like him. A sentiment that I never really got over, actually. Isn't it funny how our perceptions as children can color our opinions for the rest of our lives?

But then, I'm one of those people who STILL cannot watch The Wizard of Oz because it gave me such horrible nightmares as a toddler.

Johnny Quest
The Jetsons
The Flinstones - this was the BIG event for me as a very young child. Getting to stay up late enough to watch The Flinstones. :techman:
Lost in Space
My Favorite Martian

Land of the Giants
Battlestar Galactica (TOS)
The Six Million Dollar Man
Bionic Woman
