Agreed. I always found Bashir to be incredibly misogynistic, and, especially in early seasons, downright condescending. They tried to give him some sort of humility with the genetic engineering backstory, but I think it completely backfired and had the opposite effect on his character.
That said, while I think DS9 has the worst main cast, it has probably the best recurring cast in Garak, Dukat, Nog, Gowron, Martok, et al.
I liked Kes plenty, I liked how the character grew on the show (dispite the writer's best efforts), thought the short life span was a good idea, the actresses soft spoken way of speaking, and the "elf" like appearance.
Marc Alaimo was really solid but the writers botched his character in my view.

I don't disagree; however I was most talking about their ability as actors, rather than the effectiveness of their characters' stories.
DS9 jumped the shark with the Pah-wraiths .
There's far too much pretentious, self-righteous twaddle in TNG-era Trek.
I don't hate Trek-Lit, but I don't gravitate toward it, either. I've probably read five Trek novels to completion. I've started at least three others, but never finished those.
I'm really going against mainstream here:
I like Neelix.
He can be annoying, he is scared in sight of danger, overconfident in his safe space, has horrible manners, a funny voice and is generally unprofessional. But then again: He is not a professional! He is some random waste guy that joined the journey. He and Seven were the crew members the crew "picked up", that (kinda') sold the concept of "being alone", where they couldn't just dump him on the next Federation base. I wish more "rogue" characters would have joined Voyager on her journey. In fact I wish Seska would have stayed on board after her face-heel turn and backstory revelation (instead of convientently dying). Would have been a fine addition to the cast, having an "evil" Cardassian on board, with a personal backstory of love and betrayal, with whom they slowly over time would need to work together again and couldn't just get rid off.

The big space battles of DS9. (although I love the few ground battles)
DS9 is a very well written show, that is best when the scopes are the characters and how they react to the war around them. The space battles are flashy trash, the vfx doesn't hold up, and the narratives of the battles where way less sophisticated than on TNG. Also, TNG did a fine job of showing spaceships as large submarine/aircraft-carrier-like behemoths. DS9's space battles turned capital ships into the equivalent of TIE-fighters. A battlegroup of 23 starships on TNG was an amazing sight to behold. A group of thousands of Galaxy- and old Miranda-class starships getting blow'd up with their millions of people an board (and starfleet building tem on an assembly line, but still only having ONE real warship, the Defiant) is ridiculous.

- “The Way to Eden” is one of my favorite episodes from the original Star Trek. I love the music!
- I really like the first two season of The Next Generation. The focus is much more on a weird galaxy full of wonders waiting to be explored. Also, the music and cinematography is far superior.
- I liked Tasha Yar and I loved Kate Pulaski. Don't particularly like Worf and the whole Klingon Honor Shtick.
- Season 2 of Deep Space Nine is my favorite from the show. A perfect string of episodes and I love the Bajoran storyline.
- Kes was my favorite character from Voyager and I regretted to see her leave the show. Harry's an okay guy, but he should have left instead.
- I enjoy the character of Neelix. He can be grating, but Ethan Phillips is an awesome guy and episodes like “Jetrel”, “Mortal Coil”, “Fair Trade” and “Rise” are among my favorites from the whole franchise.
- Season 3 of Enterprise was the best of that particular show. The Xindi storyline was a great idea for the series.
- T'Pol is one of the most interesting characters of the whole franchise, which, for me, is mostly due to the finely nuanced performance by Jolene Blalock. Behind her eyes, underneath the cool exterior you can always sense the fight between the teachings of logic and her curiosity regarding emotions. It's something I only noticed years after the original broadcast and after repeated viewings.
