Threshold is really surprising me, it's a pretty decent show.

Two and a Half Men is only on the air because of syndication? Huh? Isn't that show the highest rated comedy on all of television? And since Charlie Sheen was dropped, haven't the ratings increased?

Additionally, and I'm sure you're being hyperbolic, but there's no way that the syndication revenues from a single television series over the course of 13 years could be worth $150 billion. It's worth a lot, but it's not even close to that high a figure.

I haven't done a quantitative study or anything, but I suspect this is almost certainly untrue. I'd be willing to be that at least 60% of shows in second-run syndication have more than 100 episodes.

The Prisoner had a mere 17 eps. and yet also ran for years in syndication.

The Prisoner was a British television series. Their production model means fewer episodes. As a result, few British shows reach the 100 episode mark. Also, wasn't The Prisoner mostly shown on PBS after it's brief, first-run appearance on US network television in the 60s?

An American TV series with at least 20 eps. per season needs five years to get 100 or more which is rarer than you might think especially among the sci-fi and fantasy series. And a number of network shows were shown on PBS after their network runs including The Twilight Zone(one of the few shows to have 110 eps.) and The Outer Limits, I don't wher all The Prisoner aired over time though.

Is syndication even a factor any more, given how popular and (relatively) cheap DVD boxsets are now?

It's still a big source of revenue for library titles (or currently running programs that have produced enough episodes to be syndicated, like 30 Rock). I'd wager studios make more money from syndicating old programming than they do with home video sales, although they obviously make money there as well.

Fair enough. If I feel like I want to watch a show again, I'll just go pick up the DVD. That way I can watch at my leisure. I figured most people did the same, hence there being less need for syndicated shows.

^Not everybody has enough discretionary income to buy any DVD set that catches their eye. So syndicated reruns still serve a purpose.

...but I watched a marathon once, and was surprised at how good it was. Yeah they tend to just make up alien abilities as they go, but that was kind of what was supposed to make it scary.

Plus it had both *Brenth Spiner* AND *Peter Dinklage*!

I really enjoyed Threshold, I thought it was a great show. I really wish I could have seen what stories they had planned out for subsequent seasons.

Well, I have one episode left...

Kind of disappointed, not in the show, I'm enjoying it. I'm really dissapointed it didn't get a chance to play out it's premise.

Also, Brent Spiner...wow. I loved him as Data, but he did such an amazing job with his character on this show, it's a wonder why he hasn't shown up in more things. The man is talented.

He's been in quite a few movies and TV guest roles since TNG ended, the best-known one probably being Dr. Okun in Independence Day. He's also done stage work and animation voice work, notably Puck in Gargoyles and the Joker in Young Justice.
