Three New Actors Added

It's three women so far (Sonequa Martin-Green, Michelle Yeoh and Mary Chieffo) and with very prominent roles. Four if the rumors about Emily Coutts' casting are true.
So... Maybe as good as Voyager, and it takes the cast of two federation ships and one Klingon ship to do it? Nah, no pass for that. Given how much fuller wanged on about it, I was expecting at least gender parity.

It sounds like I've possibly seen the new cast members in shows and movie I've watched, but the names and faces aren't imediately familiar to me. It does seem odd to me that we've heard more about the Shenzou crew than the Discovery.

Technically, of the 6 Starfleet cast members that have been announced, 3 have been on Discovery and the other 3 have been on Shenzou. I think what's giving the impression we've "heard more about the Shenzou crew" is that they've been mostly senior officers and that their equivalents haven't been announced for Discovery yet.

Between the cast anouncements being split by ships and the fact 2 of the cast on the show's namesake ship are science officers, I'm unfortunately getting a Voyager vibe: Crews of 2 ships are forced to combine into one on a brand-new, state-of-the-art science exploration vessel after the other vessel is destroyed. This causes conflict in philosophies after the mission of the science vessel changes as a result of the incident. It makes sense, after all Fuller was on VOY's staff for so long.

I hope I'm wrong and they're just keeping the majority of Discovery's crew under wraps for the time being.

Hm, well, it does seem that at least the ships are going side by side. Note that at this time and after filming started we still don't have the captain's name and actor for the Discovery(there are possible scenarios to cover for that though). There are a couple ideas I'd like to see if this was the case though, that I'd consider creative writing. Wait and see phase still.

An Admiral as a main character? Do we talk about a fleet now, and not a single ship? Maybe USS Discovery is an Admiral Ship, and USS Shenzhou is her escort. It make sense if it work like that.

And because it is an admiral who lead the ship, it is the job of the lieutenant commander to do many thing, like leading an away team, etc.

But to think that ST Discovery will be about a flotilla, their mission must be very important. At least above the scientific investigations to new planets. Because we talk about an Admiral on the bridge here. not a mere captain.

Or maybe we talk about a worm hole that take our protagonists to the unknown, ala Star Gate Atlantis? A very important long range expedition that above the standard 5 years mission? To prevent the crew from returning the Federation core for long time? At least for the season 1?

IMDb: 02 characters (Dr. Nambue and Admiral Anderson) have 13 episodes; While the Klingons, Sarek have, at most, 2 episodes. If this is correct, these Klingons will have a very small participation in the first season or in the series. But Ensign Connor has 3 and 13 episodes.
I wonder if many characters will met a violent end like GoT or TWD.
