Thoughts on women proposing to men

I have a difficult time imagining a marriage without combining finances, how do you feel that'd work? I'm genuinely curious.

My husband and I have separate accounts only, works for us. We don't have kids or own a house, and we both work jobs that pay about the same, so that likely simplifies things. I never even thought about getting a joint account. We just continued on with the individual accounts that we had before we met each other. For shared costs like rent, bills, etc. some are in my name, some are in his. My husband tracks all of the expenses at the end of the month and then I write him a check for what I owe for rent and the utilities that he paid (minus the utilities that I paid).

So very interesting @Spot's Meow thank you so kindly for sharing! I'm so very glad you and your husband have something worked out that works for you two!

Congrats @Sophie74656 and good for you.

Between the two of us, we have four accounts, an individual account for the two of us, a joint billing account that all major bills come out and a joint savings account.

Hubby and I have one checking account and one savings account. We discussed it very thoroughly when we got engaged. We had a one-year engagement, so we could move in together--which meant I had to move to another city and find a job. We made about the same but his job had benefits. I was a temp worker with no benefits at all. So I moved to his city. We made very sure how the money would be handled. We are both very practical people and not big spenders--although hubby is ridiculously cheap. I'm practical but will spend if I feel it's necessary. He handles the insurance and things that come with his job. I do all the bill-paying, as I'm very good at getting things done on time and hubby--not so much. He handles insurance, the mutual fund, etc. We both have access to check the accounts whenever we want.

We set a $200 rule: if you want to buy something that's $200 or more, you have to discuss it with the other person first. It's worked for us very well.

You totally absolutely can't just drop a bomb like that on us and just leave us! You're torturing me! I need full descriptive storytelling here, like every little detail and emotion you felt!
