Thor: Ragnarok

First Look At Thor, Hela, And Valkyrie

Nice.
Wow, it's amazing how different Thor looks with short hair.
I can understand not recreating Valkyrie's comic book costume exactly, but I am surprised they didn't try to work at least a few elements from it into the movie costume.

Wow, saw the new synopsis on MarvelWiki last night but they didn't mention the hair.

So, short haired Thor, without Mjolnir, lost on the other side of the universe with Hulk. *And* Dr. Strange is part of the story.

This should be interesting to say the least.

That picture's interesting. I wish Hela was a bit more traditional, and had the whole "half normal half rotting corpse" appearance that's fairly distinctive. valkyrie looks bland and like she won't be anywhere near as interesting as the comic version. The synopsis is really just "Marvel didn't want to let Universal distribute a Hulk sequel, so here's Planet Hulk with Thor tacked on". That doesn't mean the movie will be bad, far from it. But it looks like it won't be the Asgard focused Thor movie I've wanted since the first movie came out.

I can just imagine Zack Snyder looking at these and being confused by all the colour on display.

 Yeah, I sometimes wonder if Snyder is aware that non-muted colors even exist.

I love Jeff Goldblum's look. :D

I wondered the same. Maybe it's pre-CGI?

Grandmaster: Thor, uh, needs to be ripped limb from limb. And the Hulk ... well, if there's one thing that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has taught us, it's that the Hulk cannot be contained. The Hulk breaks free, it expands to new territories, even to new realms in space. The Hulk crashes through barriers, painfully, maybe even dangerously, but ... uh, well ... there it is.

Loki: There it is...

Hela: You're implying that assembling an arena full of super-humans, monsters, and gods from the Nine Realms to fight to the death will ... backfire on us?

Grandmaster: No. I'm simply saying that, uh, the Hulk, uh, the Hulk finds a way.

I didn't even notice that Goldblum is in the movie (the site linked in the earlier post wasn't working for me when it came to looking at the photo gallery). I like his look, and its really cool that he's in the movie.

Are you referring to mythology or comics? It looks pretty true to the comics. I can't tell if she has a cape (she does need that), but the only thing she's missing there is the hat. That would be an area of concern, but the half rotting corpse thing doesn't sound familiar.

Here is an example of what I'm talking about

It's weird seeing Thor with short hair. Anyway I'm hoping that this movie is a lot better than the previous Thor film. That was horrible.

They did show her with the hat in some of the concept art that was released, so it's at least been considered.

I kind of wished they cast a taller actress as Valkyrie. She's supposed to be statuesque isn't she?

Actually, at least in later comics, she has been shown as half rotten, but the rotten half is usually covered up by her costume (I want to say that either Kieron Gillen's Journey Into Mystery or PAD's good X-Factor run that used this). It originally came from the norse myths, I think. The wikipedia page on the norse version mentions half her body being blue or black and the other like flesh, and I've read at least one fantasy book that's more faithful to norse mythology then Marvel that has half her body being rotten).

The Marvel Wiki says her cloak is what makes her look normal, which is why she can even wear skimpy stuff sometimes and look normal. When she takes off the cloak, half her body is a rotting corpse. I'm sure that is what I saw in one of the books I mentioned, although I don't know who introduced it to the comics. I guess it makes sense that they normally keep her not looking so freaky.

So, yeah, her costume looks ok in the pics, and I'm not that broken up over losing the hat. I just think it would establish her as a pretty freaky villain if they showed even a glimpse of her true form in the movie at some point, although its just something I'd like to see, it won't be a big issue if it doesn't happen.
