Third/Final Trailer

Since we're almost done picking/theorizing this trailer apart.

Do you think we'll get one more before the movie comes out FIVE months from now?!

Yep, for certain.

And if they run a "special sneak preview" of the movie during the Superbowl I'll guess now that it will be built around the "skydiving/swordfighting" sequence.

Hopefully they aren't too revealing. I hate trailers that start to show major plot changes.

It would seem (pardon the expression) logical for them to release a final trailer, say around the very end of March or the beginning of April. Preferably one that doesn't throw images at you at trans-warp speeds.

Ah, I remember the old days were trailers would show you more than.0002 seconds of a scene before meshing into the nex one.

That aside, what they've given us looks great. I just want to see more. Far more.

Yeah, the old trailers that are long excerpts of dialog and story... trailers have to be more exciting now.

I'm just afraid that this marketing juggernaut won't be able to keep up steam for six more months. The movie is done. Everyone's just sitting on her hands now trying to come up with creative ways to sell the same movie.

But I think I'm not one to criticize. I've known about this movie for a year or two. For the larger audience, the new trailer is the first publicity to which it is exposed. I just hope the energy can be sustained.

They can't release new footage or have new Q&As with J.J. "I'm not a fan" Abrams. Pretty soon they'd release the whole film.

I think Abrams was right to want to release the movie around Christmas. A new Trek movie belongs on Christmas day, since it's such a gift to us fans who otherwise would be agonizing over the redone special effects on the new TOS release.

This is one area that JJ Abrams excels at, selling his product.

I think there is a high certinally that we will get a third trailer just before May and I'm guessing the second one could be attached to Watchmen in March. That would be my bet.

Third trailer for definate.

Maybe not until late April early May.

Im hoping it wont give away too much, maybe an edited version of what weve got with a few seconds of additional footage.

Hell, if trailers are to go by, some scenes dont even make the final cut, so id be surprised if some of the scenes weve seen so far make it to the
screen.

Yes.

One week before the movie begins, we'll be treated to the opening notes of the original Star Trek theme played with a black background. (Not even stars.)

Suddenly, the scene will shift to a shot of JJ sitting in Kirk's chair on the new bridge, laughing uncontrolably, sputtering out the words "Trek fans!", having trouble getting it out each of the several times he says it.

The audio and video will face to a screen with the same black background, on which the movie's "STAR TREK" logo will fade in, followed by the opening date of the movie. This will be a 30 second spot.

Every single major summer tentpole for I dunno how long has gotten a Superbowl trailer, Trek will. Then it'll be dissected for use as a TV spot over the next couple months leading to the release.

Shit, you mean I've got to watch the SuperBowl?! Ah, man!

Definitely will be a third trailer. Orci already hinting at it on TrekMovie.com. I do hope it is a little more narrative in telling us what the story is. I absolutely enjoyed the first one. I think it was to break the ice that this is a new Star Trek. It also seems to be touted as a "teaser trailer" in itself. Hope the next one tells us a little more of the story to try to reinforce that there IS a story.. and to show us Nimoy! :)

Ditto that. One of my biggest disappointments in this trailer is that we didn't see Old Spock.

I'll have to head over to TrekMovie to check out what he had to say.

This was just a teaser trailer. Designed to do just that: tease you about the movie. A more substansive trailer revealing more on the plot should be released a couple of months before the release, wouldn't be surprised to see it as early as the Superbowl but I doubt it'll be that early.

I always assumed the *first* trailer was the teaser.

Well, no. I think that first trailer was more of an 'announcement" trailer.

Sometimes, a film has three trailers, one with some footage shot just for the trailer, that doesn't show you much at all, but is enticing nonetheless. Like the first trailer for T2 had a bunch of T-800's being constructed. the scene was never in the film, but it did serve to announce the film. Indeed, my brother's favorite film at the time was the original Terminator and he was a movie buff, and he hadn't heard about the sequel even being produced until that announcement trailer.

Then comes the teeaser trailer. Then comes the third, full trailer.

Another example is the announcement trailer is the first trailer for LOTR, which mainly showed a ring against a red backdrop. It lands in Frodo's hands tehn we get a flash of scenes from the first film (with a few shots from the trilogy, as it was actually announcing the production of the tilogy as a whole) and it ended with the Fellowship walking past camera. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzWZTC-jovo&feature=related
