Things you wouldn't like to see return for a sequel

. Whatever the director wants to do is fine with me just bring on another Trek movie.

And its attitudes like that which led to needing a reboot in the first place.

I'm probably not going to get my wish, either, but I'd like to see discussion sticking to subjects relating to the movie, rather than taking pokes at other fans, whether individuals or groups, whether on this board or off. Such jabs never add much of value to a discussion.

This would have been fine, all by itself:

A)Simon Pegg, he was completely miscast as Scotty and is the only actor i would like to see replaced
B)Lens Flares, way overdone
C)Five minute villains. Can we get a villain this time round that actually has a bit of depth and screentime?
D)Khan.

I liked the little Scotty sidekick. I liked the Spock/Uhura relationship and don't want to see it axed because some people can't handle a brave new Trek. I liked Scotty's feisty sense of humor, the new bridge and even the damn lens flares.

Both carried less weight with the dig attached.

Don't know if this has already been stated, but one minor thing sticks in my mind. Please have Chekov learn how to pronounce "V". The accent was also a bit heavy handed, I thought.

That was explained a long time ago. Yelchin is fluent in Russian and the substitution of the English 'W' sound for 'V' is actually more of a German thing, but it was decided by the filmmakers that since Koenig did it for the Original Series, Chekov in the new movie would do it the same way. Given that they were going for effect with the accent, Yelchin still did try to make it as believable a Russian accent as he could, drawing on speech characteristics of his own relatives.

Yes, I know, I meant I didn't know if anyone had mentioned not liking it in this thread. But I just felt it was something from TOS that could be dispensed with at this point. I liked it fine in TOS, though. And I like him generally having an accent. It's Just a pet peeve is all. I'd rather have his dialogue flow more smoothly than have him always stumbling over W/V and he could still sound quite Russian.

I see what you're saying, and I don't generally like obviously put-on or wrong accents, either, but I don't think it was overdone in this movie. They decided that there should be a "nuclear wessels"-type gag in there, but we weren't really beat over the head with it. Now that it's been done, I think we may see the accent relaxed just a little for the next movie, keeping it there enough that we know it's Chekov, but not so much that he's too hard to understand. (I'm pretty sure that Koenig also turned the accent up or down, as needed, in the OS and movies.)

Amazing and revealing Yelchin interview -- I missed that before; thanks! He actually has an opinion on Chekov; it makes me want to see more Chekov, which I hadn't thought about before. I really like Yelchin from this interview; he's had an astounding career already for someone his age. He kind of IS Chekov.

Call me crazy, but I'd like to see a totally new Trek adventure in the next film. One of Trek's problems for a long time is that it has been staring at its navel and not "boldly going where no man (one) has gone before." Now that the Trek XI blockbuster has put Kirk and company into the limelight, let's not rehash old things!

In the spirit of the glowing alien, why not a landscape covered with a moss that glows? Maybe covering a mountain, glowing a soft green at night? I dunno, something weirder and wilder than 'desert planet', 'ice planet', etc. Special effects have been a limitation in the past, but no longer...

I would like the sequel to be about them and I have this basic plot idea for a sequel that I might make a thread on if I iron out a few things. Fair to say it would involve Klingons/Feds relations at breaking point, A rogue pissed off Captain, Orions pirates may pop up and of course the big E and her crew ...Oh and another space battle scene to open the movie with but this time more than a 1 on 1.

I would add that to tensions of Fed/Klingons with the feds trying to find a peaceful solution instead but I would keep the link between the two film's plot at a minimum for any new viewers.

Yes! Let's have something that they just could not have created on the TV show or the movies because of lack of technology. Now we have film-making technology that can match a writer's imagination. Go for broke!
