Things That Make You Mad

Too often when I'm talking to someone and I mention how I'm a fan of Star Trek they will say "Beam me up Scotty" and every time they say it a part of me dies. Because any TRUE fan knows that phrase was never actually spoken

I feel the same way when someone says "Luke I am your father". NO DAMN IT!!!! The line was "NO..... I am your father".
Eh, I don't get worked up over that one. Those are just two of many misquoted and misremembered lines, another famous one being "Play it again, Sam."

Why would I get annoyed at someone attempting to make a connection with me on a topic they knew I had an interest in and getting details wrong?

You should see me talk sports, "hey how 'bout those.. sports"
Pretty much my feelings. My dad will frequently get Star Trek and Star Wars mixed up, but he's not trying to push my buttons at all. I just politely correct him and move on.

I think the only thing that irritates me (not fully mad, though) is fans that insist that the only correct term is "Trekkers" or "Trekkies". We're all fans, get over yourself!

Yeah along the lines of play it again Sam, Dorothy never says "I don't think we're in Kansas anymore" I forget the exact wording but people always mess it up.

The Vader one gets me because of the lines leading up to it. Vader says "obi wan never told you what happened to your father" and luke responds "he told me enough.....he told me you killed him" followed by the no I am your father.

The no in that line not only foreshadows what's about to come but it totally exposes obi was as a bald faced liar (despite this point of view crap obi wan says to wriggle out of it in Jedi). Saying "luke foreshadows nothing. The next line could be Luke come off of there and we'll talk or Luke I'm kind of cold out here so make up your mind.

When he says no, it's obvious the next words out of his mouth are going to be a devastating shock.

KAHN instead of Khan. It's Khan Singh, not the architect Louis Kahn. People see the name written somewhere, even the name of TWOK contains it...and yet there exists someone who mispells it. And I do not buy the excuses about automatic correction on some devices. I never do.

It´s Khan Singh and not Oliver Kahn, the former goal-keeper.
Most annoying, especially considering the fact, that German publisher Cross Cult is planning to release The Rise and Fall of Khan novels and Khan therefore is talked of on a daily basis. And it´s like Greg Cox said. Khan is omnipresent. :brickwall: In the Cross Cult Forum approximately two out of five fans spell it correctly. I call them "Khanatics". This misspelling makes me "khansinnig" (wahnsinnig = mad = Khan pun)

Yes, it is contextual. The tone and intention is everything. I don't sweat it when someone isn't stating something with the intention of belittling my interests and pursuits.

I have still yet to figure that out as there are varying definitions. So I just refer to myself as a 'Trek fan.'

We had the Khan typo problem. Some typos are annoying, some are funny. Most of them are certainly not intentional.

New Frottier for instance. "Frottierhandtuch" means terry towel.

Lucky me, I´m typing via notebook, not smartphone. So my typos are not smartphone-related.

Elsewhere I started a Khan Quiz

its because they are doing it to specifically agitate someone or say things in a sarcastic manor.

I've been saving up for a sarcastic manor. I plan to retire there. ;)

I would opt for the sardonic manor instead; they throw in the irony fence for free.;)

I have a confession. Every time I write the name Chekov I have to look it up. I want to throw an extra 'h' in there and my mind starts spinning and I panic and look it up. And I have been watching this stuff my whole life!

Okay maybe if I hung out in the TOS forum I would get over this or.. maybe not since I have looked up B'Elanna quite a few times too

Something that gets me a bit cheesed off is when people keep saying that Vulcans have no emotions. This is patently untrue.

Vulcans are a deeply emotional race...they just keep their passions bottled up inside them all the time.
