Spoilers Things that grind my gears about S3

”enlightened” ones are supposed to award insubordination if it’s warranted, though.

And “enlightened” humans are supposed to forgive, so why not organizations?!
Since I don't see these humans as enlightened I don't know what is supposed to mean. That people shouldn't have consequences? it doesn't make any sense to me that such behavior would be regarded as enlightened.

I can't say that it grinds my gears, really, but the two storylines I thought looked most intriguing this season -- creepy Kovich and Detmer's PTSD -- ended up going nowhere. You'd think the latter would have been ripe for exploration after all the Discovery crew has been through, but they tossed it away, much as they tossed away Lorca as a morally gray captain.

Kovich is someone I think we all want to know more about but I had a feeling from the start that maybe Cronenberg would only be signed on as a bit part.
Detmer though gave me real hope we would see more of the crew this year but all we got was a little action story at the very end

The thing that grinds my gears the most is the sloppy writing. For example, in the S3 finale, they decided they needed to eject and explode the warp core to escape the enemy ship when they really didn't. They could have just jumped away. The reason they did it is so they could have a cool VFX shot of the warp core ejecting and exploding, but it wasn't needed for the plot and kind of makes Burnham a mass murderer if you think about it. There's tons of examples like this that really make it hard to stay engaged in the show.

Nah. I doubt the cool VFX idea preceded the idea of ejecting the warp core.
I'm in for the character stuff mostly. So maybe I don't notice or care about that stuff.

The hope that is Detmer?

Same here. VFX could be trimmed all out save for establishing shots and I'd still be onboard for these characters.

It wasn't so they could escape the ship, it was so they could destroy the ship. You know, so that their escape would not be in vain.

I'm pretty sure it did, there's no other reason to do it. It wasn't needed to advance the plot, they could have just jumped away.

Yeah but if they don't know where Discovery is going then there's really no reason to destroy the ship. Even if there was a risk of still being found the good guys really shouldn't be straight up murdering people on the off chance the ship might find them again.

They were in battle. It's not murder.

I pretty sure the script was written with out "ooooh chance for some cool VFX" in mind.

It's not "straight up murder" when they're enemy combatants who have captured your ship and know the top secret location of your headquarters.

Oh, let me guess. "Starfleet isn't a military. They shouldn't be using lethal force even when it's warranted."

It was a completely needless escalation of that battle. Even if you are in a war it doesn't give you license to just go around murdering people for no reason.
