Things that frustrate us all

It depends on the state and what the laws, as well as store policy requires. For many stores, a person at the front is more about setting the tone of good customer service, greeting people, and thanking them, and creating the atmosphere that the employees are there to help rather than ignoring customers. Because of this, the idea is that a criminal will not want that attention and opt to not try, if they are looking for an easy score.

The other part is an observer who can provide information. As a former retail manager I was once called upon to provide a police report to an officer for someone who had shoplifted from our store (rather brazenly before leaving) and the officers were able to use that and other information from other local stores to prosecute them.

They are doing far more than people realize. The criminals only get away with it because store policies often are centered around avoiding injury than retaining product.
I see now, that does make more sense that way.

I really wish they would stop showing so many commercials for things like the ASPCA and St. Jude's, those are just hard to watch, especially now that they have one or two St. Jude's commercials where the kids they profile ended up dying.

I am SO DONE with the idea of staying up past midnight on New Year's Eve.

OMG same. My bedtime is around 8PM (I have to get up between 4am and 5am usually since I have the early morning shift at work), and staying up past that is getting more and more difficult the older I get. There are times when I'm really to fall asleep right there in my armchair.

New Year's is particularly horrible because I can neither sleep a bit during the day nor can I sleep for a while until midnight in the evening due to the noise outside. I have no other choice, I have to stay awake and wait for the noise to be over. It's ugh, especially since I usually work on New Year's in the morning, which means I got up at 4am and then can only go to bed at 2am the following night because that's when the noise tends to finally stop around here. No fun at all. Makes me feel like a zombie. And then the noise continues the following night (to a lesser extent, but still enough to keep me awake) because some people clearly don't want to understand the concept of "please use up all your fireworks on New Year's".

I wish they'd ban New Year's altogether.

I love customers who don't consider the existence of either New Year's Day or time-zone differences, and unilaterally alter mutually agreed holiday schedules on a whim while I'm already away at a New Year's Eve party at 9:30 PM, then act fussy when I don't reply to their request that I make myself available on January 1.

So done with people. My mom and I were trying to order a pair of meatball subs at Subway and the lady upfront was being a lazy, entitled ass.
Speaking as one who's been branded, threatened or castigated for the most trivial misunderstandings imaginable for almost three years now, I understand your fury. It seems like the vast majority of the alleged good people are taking the day off permanently.

All I can conclude with is that people you can deal with may now be the vast minority, but savor the good ones who are currently hiding. With all luck these things are cyclical.

And if the next modern-day fast-food worker replies to your ''thank you'' with ''no problem'', consider replying ''there'd better not be,'' followed by optional running.

I've discovered in the three years working behind the counter that customers with exceptionally high end/fancy cars expect to be treated differently than those who own a basic run of the mill car.

They want their car serviced first even if they're late for their appointment. They sit in the lobby talking on their phone and occasionally get up and poke their head into the shop to see if any progress is being made on their vehicle.

Then they like to examine every item on the receipt and they pull out their phones and add up the parts and labor and complain about the total on the bill being different than the total they're getting on their phone and want concessions and price breaks.

I especially like customers who buy the cheapest no-name/off-brand tires for their Mercedes/BMWs/Tesla's because they can't afford anything else.

My co-worker, Paul, likes to say that 'BMW' stands for 'Bring Money With', and that you need a second credit card if you want to afford the work on a Mercedes.

The best customers are the ones who I've gotten to know, who walk in, throw the keys down on the counter and say, "Lube, oil and filter. Call me if there's any problems or when it's done." And that's it. No fuss, no muss.

Edit to add.

I would also like to say, that for every customer who comes in and says they're moving to Texas or Florida because of the political climate in Washington state, I get just as many who have just moved to Washington from Texas or Florida because they want a better life for their family and they think Washington affords them that opportunity. This summer seemed to be the great Texas exodus. At least once a week, I checked in customers who had just moved from Texas to escape the political climate as well as the heat.

Please forgive my language... but the observation that "assholery is directly proportional to wealth" is not really a new one. Sure, it might not hold in all cases, but as a maxim is seems to be borne out more often then not.

The beauty of the United States.

I've encountered as many assholes under the poverty line as way above it.

A Stoic quote I just read seems apt: "It is not the man who has too little, but the man who craves more, that is poor.”

Ah my coworker. I wish my place would hire better people. I've got this guy that I really want to avoid and do so. I told the head cashier that I had a bad case of work ethic and came to work sick. She ran out of part time off and she's there, sick. It's that or contractors from the certain large country. I mean, I understand you want to hear what you want to hear, but you have to give me time to tell you want you want to hear, never mind that I've got two empty boxes, and I don't have the jalousie hardware frame that you are looking for. Oh - and what about 'clear' and 'not-clear' for clear/obscure jalousie glass is hard to understand given that clear/obscure terms are, apparently, hard for those type of contractors to understand? Is it possible for a term of being polite being vacant in those contractors?

Over the years I've had occasion to work for people who had much higher means than myself. Some have been very kind and empathetic, some have been very entitled and demanding (to put it nicely), and some have been somewhere in between.

Walgreens Pharmacy. The medication requires refrigeration control, or I would use Express Scripts.

I have a new medication that is a tier 3, non-generic.

It requires preauthorization from my insurance.

I changed Prescription Drug insurance on January 1, because my Prescription Drug insurance from last year was dropping tier 3, 4 and 5 medications from coverage.

Before the first of the year, I updated my insurance information on Walgreens' website, Walgreens deleted the information, and changed it back to my insurance coverage from last year.

I called Walgreens on Thursday, January 2, and they were filling the prescription from my doctor, informed the pharmacy technician it required insurance preauthorization, and my insurance changed. You would think I was an adult on the Peanuts specials, and he was a kid on the show, and all he heard was "wah wah wah wah wah" trombone noise.

Walgreens emailed me late Friday evening, saying my prescription was ready to be picked up. The price listed was $1,297.09. That was because they didn't bill the correct insurance company.

On Saturday, I go to Walgreens to have them change my insurance information, and pick up my prescription. The pharmacy technician tells me the Walgreens computer system is down, nothing can be done, about changing insurance information, but I can pick up the medication for the low, low price of $1,297.09 (to be fair the list price for the prescription is $1,700.)

I called Walgreens on Sunday and after six minutes with their Artificial (Non) Intelligence, I get through to a pharmacy technician and verify their computer system is working.
Head the 10 miles back to the nearest Walgreens, I wait in line and see the pharmacy technician to have him enter my correct insurance information. The price drops to $659.14, because I met my annual $590 copay with that one prescription. Next month, the copay will drop to $130 and free after I reach my Medicare $2,000 prescription drug limit.
The pharmacy technician tells me it will take 20 minutes to fill it, I say "it has already been filled, it is in your refrigerator (and I point to the refrigerator), and I am here to pick it up."
He doesn't listen or only hears "Wah wha wha," leaves the counter, and goes to talk to the pharmacist. I get out my smartphone, look up the Walgreens' email that says the prescription was ready to pick up on Friday night.

He comes back from the pharmacist to tell me the drug is out of stock, but I can have it filled and pick it up at any other Walgreens in the area. I tell him it was already filled, ready to be picked up on Friday night, show him the email from Walgreens, point to the refrigerator again and say "it isn't out of stock, it is sitting in the refrigerator, with a prescription with my name on it."

He goes to the refrigerator, opens it up and says "Here it is."
One of the people in line listening in says, "right where you told him it was."
I replied "twice."

I feel you @Kraig, something similar happened to me. I take the same medication for 10 years now, no problems until now. I went to see a doctor last Friday, no prescription because my doctor wanted to consult with a psychiatrist about my medication.

She called him, and even though he assured her that I needed that medication I still didn't get a prescription. She gave me a new appointment today and I had to bring her all my sleep medication which are four different kinds, they are necessary because otherwise I suffer from amnesia.

Because my autistic brain doesn't make enough melatonin! And that's something scientific research proved! Anyway I gave her my pills and she starts talking about lessening my pills, I argue with her said I needed I needed it, said it's proven that my autism makes less melatonin, no dice.

She gave me a prescription and I had to give all my sleeping pills I got plus the ones that I would buy to the reception, and I had to go each day to the reception to get my pills for the night. I was like that ain't gonna happen you self-righteous, insufferable, arrogant bitch!

So I went to the reception, filed a complaint, cancelled my next meeting with her and asked for a different doctor. She made me feel like a was a junk :wah:

Eta: that doctor called my mom, I'm so going file a complaint for doctor patient confidentiality

When you show up to work to find out the Master Technician abruptly quit this morning leaving a big gaping hole in your staff and you have to call customers and try and have them reschedule their appointment because you don't have anyone to do the work today.
We had a General Service Technician who could do basic oil changes and flat repairs, but major work was out of the question. The store probably lost a couple thousand in business because of this.

Update: I can't file a complaint because I'm not a minor anymore and it's my mom, if I was a minor or if she called a friend then it was breaking doctor patient confidentiality. So I just called the reception to remove my mom's phone number, nobody calls my mom about my medication without my permission
