Things that frustrate us all

Is your synagogue “secure” and being looked after?

My church also has a full time security guard. Armed to the teeth.

It's pretty sad we've reached a point where even places of worship aren't safe from that kind of thing.
I call it ''our'' local synagogue as it's two blocks away from my area. (Like Andy Griffith, I'm a Moravian Protestant myself.) I only discovered recently there had been threat issues....probably graffiti or phone calls, putting this in the cowardly majority of similar reported incidents here. There have been newly constructed rock barriers which at least are visually appealing. The Torah currently has security at the moment. I went once with a friend to their regular Friday evening service as a guest.

Skimming alerts. One of the reasons I still use cash is an increase in paranoia after 11 years of retail work and alerts of people installing devices to steal credit card data. Whelp, just got another alert for a local gas station and they are getting smaller, thinner, and easier to conceal.

People have nothing better to do with their time than to make life harder for others?

The card skimmer is why I won't use a debit card. My credit card was skimmed in 2009 at a gas station pay at the pump in Arizona on I-40. I figured it had to have happened there because the pump didn't activate when I inserted the card. I have my account set up to get email and text alerts of all credit card transactions. I was notified of the fake transactions shortly after I left the station. I called the toll free number on the back of the card, the fraudulent transactions were canceled, I was not charged for them, and I got a new card delivered in two business days. With a debit card you loose the money, with a credit card, your account is refunded. I also carry more than one credit card, to use if the other one has to be canceled, or is not accepted.

My credit cards keep holding on to funds with any disputed funds so I just shrug and move on. It's not worth the headache.

I have had that happen to me more recently. And more than once. It is very scary. Because I did not know how much more they would take, and I was afraid I would get overdrawn because certain bills and purchases haven't come in yet. I had to have my card canceled twice within just a few months. Also, with my bank it can take up to a week to get a new one. I ran out of groceries before it happened. I don't carry much cash on me anymore. They were very nice and replaced the money I lost when they found it wasn't my mistake.

Do they only do that when you slid you're card through the reader? I haven't actually had to slid my debit card like that in ages, most of the time it has me insert it into the reader, or I just tap the chip.

In the two years I've been behind the counter, I've seen a definite increase in the number of customers who use their phone or watch to tap on the credit card machine and don't even carry a wallet or purse.

Depends on the skimmer. There are other devices designed to activate the chip remotely and capture data that way.

Exactly. Went to a GameStop once and ran into this problem. Will only use cash with them from now on. Just too many people trying to scam people.

Fuckin' customer in my store brings their DOG in and lets it run around, without a leash. :brickwall:

I'm like, Lady, you are damn lucky that rat-sized piece of shit DOESN'T have a leash, because I would have used it to STRANGLE the little bastard.

And no, I don't know why none of the managers had the balls to tell the customer that dogs aren't allowed.

I have to deal with FIVE different mobile apps for my triip to Germany:

- United
- Lufthansa
- Transit in Berlin
- Transit in Munich
- Deutsche Bahn (for the train trip from Berlin TO Munich)

I ended up back at the doctor's again today, because after everything I dealt with a couple weeks ago, now I've been having chest pains over the last few days which have no escalated to difficulty breathing yesterday and today. Not sure if this is related to the infection or a coincidence.

Enjoy your trip to Germany, I hope your phone battery holds up. It would be bad to have all those mobile apps and not be able to access them.

Sorry to hear that. Maybe it won't be too serious. Best wishes.

I have doctor visits all over the state starting next week. Monday primary care doctor for a check up, not very far away, Thursday my colorectal surgeon specialist 75 miles south of me, then on the last Friday in September an MRI 120 miles northwest of me. I return to see my Urology Oncologist the first Friday in October in the city where the MRI was performed to discuss the MRI results and what happens next.
