Things that frustrate us all

I hate the thought of even having to check luggage at all.

That's why I always travel light. I don't take what I can't bring on board with me.

That said, at the old Berlin airport (Tegel), every gate had its own baggage claim! I always thought that was cool.

(Pity that Tegel has since been replaced - I've only been there once and I already miss it.)

I met my stepmother-in-law this past weekend. Wow. That was...interesting. From refusing to get the vax to insisting people "pouring over the border" be force vaxxed to how all teenagers girls are trying to be boys and boys are trying to be girls to how her mom can't watch Hallmark today because it's so political...just wow. And she never stopped. It went on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on... *gasp* *inhaaaaaaale* ...and on and on and on.

But the most comical "surely I'm being filled because this is a joke" moment was when we got in the car after lunch. It had been parked outside for about 1.5 hours in 30 degree weather and was, you know...cold. Well, she got in the back seat with me and started fiddling with the heater and became very upset that it was blowing cold air. "Why is it blowing cold air?? This thing is broken!" *jacks heat up four times in a row* "It's still cold! Is the AC on?! It's not warm! Why isn't it warm yet?!" LADY you can turn the heat up to 1,000°F but until this car warms up ain't nothin happening.

I feel you! Thankfully, my parents (and me too) behaved on Thanksgiving.

Not being very knowledgeable about knives, what does a dishwasher do to expensive knives?

It can warp and damage the handle, unfortunately - the heat can be brutal...

And not just the expensive ones - anything metal that's fused, screwed, or connected to another material, especially wood, will come out the worse for wear.

I baby my knives like they're, uh... babies ! ;)

Oh, Galley - how awful ! You showed such great patience and restraint, and I don't know how you endured...

I would have been hiding on the back porch crying into an entire pie and mumbling to myself :wtf:

Had a couple frustrating moments today. And yes this is another bike riding story, but at least it's not about horses peeing this time.
So I went along my alternate route today, and I got stuck behind this lady who passes me a lot going the other way. She was swerving all over, and kept trying to pass, but she completely ignored me when I said I was going past, and then every time I moved over to pass her, she swerved and I had practically slam on the breaks. It took me four or five times the first time, and then I took a water break at a trailhead, and when I started back up I ended up behind her again, and it took me another 4 or 5 tries to get past her again.

Today is giving Tuesday, so I decided to try to donate to a couple of animal rescues on Instagram, but every time I tried, I got an error message that said to try again later. I know there are other ways to do it, but since I'm on Instagram regularly, I wanted to do it there, that way if they sent any kind of thank you or anything like that I would be sure I saw it. I tried over and over again, but it every time it just gave me that same error message. I finally just gave up, and just ended up not donating anything, anywher.

Hopefully, their sites are just busy.

Some adverts that use images and works of the deceased can be distasteful. I keep seeing an advert with the song Cry Baby and wonder what Janis Joplin would think of her music being used in a perfume advert in December.

Mom had surgery today , so they asked us to come in around 10am. Her surgery started around 1 pm, and was done around 5:30. She went to recovery, and is still there...at 8 pm. They said she was fine but they are keeping her in recovery until they find her a room. The recovery staff said they can't take her things, so I have to wait. But visiting hours end at 8 pm. But I can give her things when she gets a room and then leave... whenever that will be.

I have been here since 10 am, and it's almost 8 pm. I have her purse and bag of clothes, so I can't leave until I can give her things to her.

Really getting annoyed.

Yeah, I heard that the other day and was torn between wanting to cry and wanting to break something.:censored:

ARGH!

Yeah, I spent over 12 hrs at the hospital yesterday. They didn't get her in a room until after 10 pm.

Mom is having a bad day today, but she is 88. The pain meds aren't enough, so she didn't want visitors. She just wanted to be left alone so she could sleep. I totally get that. So she won't be home today. Maybe tomorrow. My sister of course had to call with her doom and gloom prediction,; she is always talking about " when Mom dies." Fuck off.

It drives me crazy when people write or in the case of what I saw today, draw, something they clearly know nothing about.
I've been playing on the color by numbers app Colorscapes, and I was coloring in a drawing of a couple riding horses, but the way they drew the horses' tack is a mess, the guys reins are attached to nothing, they just kind of disappear into the saddle, the saddle and breastplate are one giant thing that looks like the big harnesses they use when they're pulling wagons, and there's a random bag hanging down by the horse's leg. And the woman looks like she's holding reins, but there's nothing there.
Would it really have been that hard for whoever drew it to take a minute to pull up a picture of someone riding a horse western style, and use that as a reference.
I see this with a lot of other stuff too, and it just bugs me, because pretty any information you could possibly want, so there's really no excuse not doing at least enough research that you don't make yourself look like a complete moron. One other example I see a lot is when shows and movies have people fix a person's collapsed lung by letting air in to reinflate it, but in reality, you want to create a vacuum for the lung to start working again properly. Letting more air in is in fact the absolute last thing you want to do.

About 25 years ago I had a spontaneous left Pneumothorax when my lung collapsed in my sleep. I woke up knowing something wasn't quite right as I couldn't take in a full breath but it took me a few hours before going to hospital. The sensation of the chest drain pipe rubbing against my ribs as the A&E doctor tried to insert it in to the chest cavity was like nothing else. They initially tried to syringe air out but an xray showed it had collapsed to 10% it's normal size so it had to be a chest drain. I smoked at the time and after a few days the water in the chest drain had turned yellow.
