Things in Season One we never heard or saw again...

Season one is full of all sorts of commands and orders that were never heard of afterwards. One my favorites is "standard parking orbit." In general, the ship just seems more uptight. Everyone seems to be very concerned with following an exact procedure, whereas in later seasons things were more relaxed.

Can anyone else think of odd things we saw in season one that were dropped afterwards?

-Carpet colors on the bridge (I think)
-Less snarling Ferengis
-Worf became more of a character then a cartoon in season 2
-Chief engineer changed again
-Wesley stopped saving the day as much in season 2
-Season 1 had this odd amensia about the past. There is a reference to TOS in 'The Naked Now' by Data. One would think that the information he was relaying was hundreds of years old. Like they never heard of the original Enterprise.
-In season 1 didn't the Ent-D make an odd higher pitch wooshing noise as it went by in warp?

I'm going through TNG and there's a couple of things I miss and wish we had seen more often.

The presentation in ObsLounge in "The Last Outpost" has them dimming the lights and using a table-top presentation hologram that was really cool and never seen again (presentations from then on would be conducted on the viewers on either side of the room) a similar hologram is used on Picard's desk in another episode.

Shame neither of those where seen again, though I imagine production costs played a large part.

"Conspiracy Theory" is probably the only time The Enterprise computer displays a "bit" of sentience or at the very least annoyance with a user when it, in not these words, tells Data to shut up. Usualy the computer isn't so... "intelligent."

I believe it is the only time we see the "dustbuster" phaser. I think the first episode is the only time we see the panels in the corridors used for giving directions and, well, I could go on.

They did. It was the door just across from the Observation Lounge entrance.

Hows about the Ferengi super strength?? i remember even Data struggling in hand to hand combat with one!! Then think about how Quark and Rom cower in terror at the slightest danger on DS9!!

I miss that, actually! Wish they'd kept Picard speaking in French from time to time.

Here's one: Worf's "O.K." (Original Klingon) golden sash, the one used by Klingons in TOS. Of course, I know that they had him wear the silver sash because a golden one would've clashed with his golden uniform from season 2 on, but I wish there'd been some explanation, esp. since it seemed no other Klingon ever wore such a big silver sash.

As well as Picard even trying to do ANYTHING French - he seemed to morph into a VERY British officer post season one (and I think it's VERY telling that even the producers and writers essentially gave up on the 'French' aspect of the character quite quickly after season one too).

Yeah, in the beginning Picard was very proud of his French heritage with an almost Chekov-like obsession with it. Then, it vanished half-way through the first season.

Although, it does crop up again in the season two episode "Time Squared." When discussing Picard's stubborn resolve when it comes to mysteries, Riker calls it his "Parisian flaw." At the time, it suggested that Picard came from Paris (along with the first-season episode "We'll Always Have Paris") but was forgotten in the fourth-season when it was revealed that he came from a small wine-producing town, Le Barre.

^^Riker didn't say "Parisian flaw," he said "Persian flaw." It's an old expression referring to the purported practice of Persian rugmakers to deliberately put one flaw in every carpet, because only God is entitled to be perfect and it would be arrogant for a mortal to aspire to perfection. So Riker was saying this was the only flaw in Picard's otherwise impeccable character.

As for Picard's fanatical Francophilia in the first season, it was incredibly awkwardly written, so I'm glad they toned it down. The last thing we needed was for Picard to become a caricature like Chekov.

I'm surprised no one has discussed my offerings, I think they're probably the "better" ones of the lot.

Changed, not only to spice up the bridge, but because they were altered from Probert's original idea that they were doors to equipment storage. In "110011," they had become panels for computer relays.

The perises square outfit made another appearance in "Future Imperfect." It was worn by Jean-Luc Riker, who had "hurt" himself on the perises square court.
