That little dialogue trick on sci-fi always made me laugh. Here's an alien/android who can discuss quantum mechanics in English with ease, but doesn't understand some basic everyday word like 'market' or 'barber'.

They used it occasionally. If I remember correctly, he used it at the end of "Lower Decks" for example.Can anyone else think of odd things we saw in season one that were dropped afterwards?

how about the TOS-era bosun's whistle, from picard's shipwide address in "where no one has gone before" -??? i always thought that was a nice touch, was kinda sorry they never used it again.
This was touched on somewhat, but Geordi constantly changing departments on the ship. It also goes with the 5 or so 'Chief Engineers' that appear that season besides himself. I think by the first episode of season 2 it was finally settled that Geordi was the Chief Engineer...
