Things in Season One we never heard or saw again...

Can anyone else think of odd things we saw in season one that were dropped afterwards?

-Aaron

how about the TOS-era bosun's whistle, from picard's shipwide address in "where no one has gone before" -??? i always thought that was a nice touch, was kinda sorry they never used it again.

Kirk was a legend in his own time. Weren't multiple Klingon captains excited about facing off with him?

It is also possible that with Ambassador Spock very much around in Picard's day that Kirk's legend looms thanks in part to him talking up his friend and Captain.

I can think of two other lines of jargon we heard early on and never again:

-"There's something on the detector circuit, sir!" from Encounter at Farpoint

-"I've got a bogey at a five o'clock tangent." (or words to that effect) from another episode.

And I think the theme music is slightly different, like it was re-recorded for season 2.

In "Encounter at Farpoint" Deanna is able to communicate telepathically with Riker. She and her mother do that in later episodes, but she and Riker do not.

Another example about Kirk and his crew being legends in their own time, in TSFS, don't forget the whole Mr. Adventure scene with Uhura. Where this guy is talking up all the adventures that Uhura had and how it must be a drag that she is stuck doing a boring security gig.

Then in walks McCoy, Scotty, Sulu and James T. Kirk himself, and the guy is literally acting like a fanboy if Kelly, Doohan, Takei and Shatner all entered the room! "Hey thats...Thats..."

Maybe Picard was always speaking French, and we were hearing the universal translator output :)

That's what I've always wondered about alien cast members and even human cast members, best not to think about the old UT though...

Here's something that was less common after season 1...Deanna seeming to leave the ship every other episode, at the beginning it was "Deanna has gone to a seminar on psychological mating behaviour on Rigel IV" but by the end it was like "Deanna's f**ked off somewhere cuz we don't know what the hell to do with her"

Turbolift control.

Lol. That must have been the worst job to be assigned on the Enterprise.

 True. I think they finally figured out how to write her character after they 'softened' her a bit in season 2.

It would have been nice if they'd carried that on, I think.

Agreed - it would have been a nice connection between them.

It was damned irregular I tell you!

-Wesley stopped saving the day as much in season 2

Wow, I hate Wesley-Bashing :D :D :D

In season 1, Wesley saved the ship exactly ONE time -- when he turned the tractor beam into a repulsor beam (funny, as TOS Enterprise already had this capability -- LOL).

The only other credit I'll give Wesley is season 1 is "Datalore" -- and only because everyone else on the ship was acting like a complete putz when it came to "Data" acting strange. Frankly, Wesley should have been CAPTAIN in this episode and I expected, as a viewer, an apology from everyone to Wesley at the end of that episode.

:D :D :D When I heard Picard call for Turbolift Control on the comm, I fell out of my chair. I really wish they had down a "Lower Decks" style episode focusing on the adventures of the fine men and women of "Turbolift Control" I bet Geordi had some words with them after his turbolift adventure in "Contagion" though (I love how the turbolift THREW HIM OUT on the bridge! hahahaha)

The complete and utter load blowing awe over the holodeck. The first few times they use it they make a huge fuss over the cool 80s...er, 24th century tech.

They tone that down and it only happens later when primitive aliens see it for the first time.

Um, you do realize that thereare no holodecks in 2009 right? A holodeck is still well beyond any technology we have today. Just checking..

RAMA

I think what SmoothieX was probably referring to was that no matter how many times anyone on the crew had visited the holodeck, their facial expressions and reactions were just so over the top as if the characters themselves were actually from the 1990s and seeing a holodeck for the first time. Like "OMG!! The Door just closed and faded out!!!! WOAH!!!" whereas someone who actually lives on the ship and has been to the holodeck before --- you'd expect them to not even notice it.

Those stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid Ferengi energy whips.

I liked the energy whips :D

Don't forget "The Battle", when he glances at a screen for all of ten seconds and deduces the mind control thing.

Watching Hide and Q today I also noticed the little flip things on the arms of Picard's command chair. Those were gone by season 2.

I noticed that, too. The flip-open panels looked more breakable than than the fixed ones, I wonder if that's why it was changed.

It was a different chair. Patrick Stewart was getting back ache from the old one (and the lycra costume), but I think it turned up on other sets now and again.
