Things I Will Miss About Disco

(with perhaps the exception of the Burn Boy), and Saru is a good character made absolutely great by Doug Jones.

I even liked Burn Boy, in a weird way. I was hoping the explanation for The Burn would be something totally unexpected out of left field, and I guess that’s what we got.

Definitely agree about Doug Jones and the Kelpiens. They were the most interesting new species in Trek for quite a long time, and Doug Jones was perfect as Saru.

It was great to finally see him out of the Saru costume and showing off his acting chops, too.

You won't have to miss it much, Starfleet Academy will be almost a direct continuation, and the Sec 31 movie or series will continue back in it's old timeline most likely.

Definitely thought the concept was fine/good/promising, it just didn't quite come together in the most satisfying way. Discovery played with a lot of fun ideas --- seeing "Human" Saru, the malfunctioning translator ... heck, the spore drive was a great idea.

All in all, Discovery did work to grow the sense of wonder, of discovery, that is a core of Trek.

It's not my favorite series, but it certainly is valuable and good --- kinda like TOS in that regard... (at least to me!)

I've really enjoyed Michael's journey. Watching the character mature over the past couple seasons has been a treat.

Burnam/Book has been one of the best romances in Trek.

I love Culber, Staments, Adira, and Gray (and Reno, of course). I've been watching Trek since TNG first aired and this is the first time I've felt fully welcomed into the Trek universe. Their little family had a serious emotional impact on me. I feel proud of Trek for once for not shamefully cowering away from a deeper diversity. And I just plain like the characters. I like Adira's awkwardness and growth. That little scene designing Gray's new body was amazing. Stament's sharp edges and his sparring with Reno.

And all the rest of the characters, too. I have such a fondness for them.

I love the 32nd century tech. I love the new ships. HQ warping into and out from Earth was some of the best spaceship sequences I've ever seen. I love the new badges and phasers and programmable matter. I love the floaty bits on the ships. My first TV as a child, we had to get up from the couch, walk over to the TV, and turn the dial manually. Now we've got super computers in our pockets, smaller and more powerful than they could have imagined for a 1960's sci-fi show. I have no problem buying into the 32nd century tech magic.

And I will miss the optimism. This past season has really blown it out of the water. The choice between attempting peaceful contact versus blowing shit up was a good dynamic and I'm glad they ultimately formed a mutual understanding. I liked how Book wasn't thrown into a prison as punishment, but rather put to work repairing the damage he caused. That feels like a better, Star Trek-ier thing to do.

Anyway, I could go on forever. I'm going to miss this show.

Given what I saw in at least half of the episodes and what I've said so far, not much. Hopefully, producers will stop making such mistakes because they will only run the franchise to the ground faster.

The same applies, BTW, to other franchises.

This literally never happens. Things fans think are existential threats to shows are usually not all that important. Current Trek is one of the most popular franchises in the world.

They created two really interesting, high-potential characters and had NO IDEA what to actually do with them.
They were having a hard enough time giving the established characters meaningful arcs and storylines

Would you categorize these examples as "bad writing"?
