There Are Four Lights

One of my favorite webcomic, Abstruse Goose, just did a strip with the title "There Are Four Lights". Even though its been a decade since I last saw a TNG episode, I immediately thought of Picard. By the time I saw the first comic frame, I knew today is a good day to be a trekkie. :)

That two-parter also brought us the douchebaggery of Captain Jellico, and Riker's equally douchbaggery reaction. Reminded me of conflicts I've had with some jackass bosses. -- RR

Hahaha, that's great! Poor Picard.

I also watched Chain of Command 1&2 last night for the first time in years, and I agree, it's a chilling and haunting episode. And Patrick Stewart sure acted the hell out of it--he was absolutely riveting.

Funny comic. Made me go back and watch Chain of Command yesterday. Excellent, excellent episode and Patrick Stewart's performance is bloody brilliant.

Great comic, sent it out to several friends on facebook after seeing it here. :techman:

Chain of command is one of my favorite TNG eps. Patrick Stewart really nails the suffering.

Did you know that the whole "Four lights" thing was a reference to the movie/book "1984"?

I have seen the Black and White movie, and at some point...

...They were trying to brainwash a traitor to obey the government. One of their methods was tying him up, showing him four fingers, and asking him if he was seeing five fingers. If he answered "no", they electrocuted him. Even when he lied saying "yes" they electrocuted him, because it was obvious he was lying. At some point, he actually started to see five fingers, and the brainwash was successful.

When I saw that scene, my jaw was on the floor, as I had flashbacks from that TNG episode.

Hello. As you can tell from my username, I am Winston Smith. I am a bit confused about your spoiler reference as I have never been tortured by the government because, as Big Brother assures us, Oceania does not torture. And what is this nonsense about four fingers? Everyone knows that 2+2 = 5. Duh! Where did you learn math? I have watched this episode and think that this Picard fellow got exactly what he deserved for lying. I mean, I saw five lights so what was his problem? I guess he was just another thoughtcriminal who refuses to love Big Brother.
