Theory for TOS Enterprise and Disco Enterprise differences

The TOS movies hold up a lot better, and I would be fine if the DSC bridge resembled one of the bridges seen there..
I have feeling (and based on nothing but speculation) that the Enterprise Bridge on DSC will look similar to the TOS bridge, sans the gumdrop lights, Radio Shack-style toggle switches, and other "analog" stylings.

But at first blush will be very reminiscent.

I think they do in fact plan to show it (based on things said by some cast and crew), so I guess we will find out.

Orville is doing great and looks quite corny to be honest.
It looks like TNG though, not TOS.

TOS design with the DSC Aesthetic, i'd be fine with. I don't imagine it will be as small as the TOS bridge though, considering the size of the ship.

I'm not sure what there's to expand on since it's just an opinion.

You mean the opinion that a production that looks like or mimics TOS wouldn't hold up today? I just gave you an example of how it does, you just don't want to listen.

I said it looks more like TOS than the TMP films or DSC.
Then I suggest you go look at the TOS Film bridges than look at the Kelvin Timeline Bridge and the TOS Bridge.

the TOS FIim bridges are a lot more TOS than the Kelvin Timeline Bridge.

TMP took the TOS Aesthetic and upgraded it for the film. That's what I want to see in DSC, which they've already done with the uniforms and the hand held tech (Phasers, communicators etc)

Coming from the X-Men/Marvel world, this topic reminds me of how in the eary 2000s so many insisted that the X-Men couldn't wear their iconic uniforms in the movies because it was too old-fashioned, corny etc. and they had to stick to those black leather suits to reach the mainstream.

A few years later, Marvel's Avengers movies come out, complete with corny comic book costumes for Captain America and the rest, makes over a billion dollars, and the X-Men folks are hitting themselves saying they should have had the corny comic book costumes for the X-Men in the films all along.

...the SW aesthetic never really looked like campy and cheap pulp sci-fi, which lends to its survivability.
Oh, c'mon. You can prefer the Star Wars aesthetic if you like it as a personal thing, but you can't deny that it totally looks like campy and cheap pulp sci-fi. The costumes and weapons are straight out of the 1930s, the ships are all kitbashes covered with greebles. The bad guys are in pseudo-Nazi uniforms and the head villain literally wears all black leather with a big cape. Lucas's inspirations are all John Carter and Flash Gordon (with a dash of jack Kirby thrown in). You could hardly go more corny and retro if you tried.

The Star Wars aesthetic still holds up, TOS TV one doesn't.
They both still hold up, for people who are fans of the original.

I appreciate your attention to detail, and it is worthy of your namesake. However, Star Trek is not a literal telling, and is an art form. Therefor an update in method is to be expected. That is a part of art.

Just seeing this now. Has anyone ever done a comparison between the Disco Enterprise and the TMP Enterprise in this fashion? I think the TMP version is what the DSC team based their design lines off of, but I can't say that for sure.

Correct. The original Star Wars was meant to be an homage to those pulp sci-fi serials of the 1930 and 1940s, such as Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, Commander Cody, etc. The "our story thus far" crawl at the beginning and the "screen wipe"-style scene transitions were all made to hearken back to those old-time serials...

...As did the overall look. It was made to look like the "1930s art-deco industrial" vision of the future that those serials had.

I have been a Trek fan going on 40 years now, and I will candidly admit: the TOS sets look ridiculous, and I'd be happy never to see them rehashed again. They are a product of their era and budget. None of the consoles look like they actually do anything. They all have blinky lights and those gumdrop buttons that show no clear function. The overhead static images of galaxies and whatnot add to the cheese.

That being said, I was delighted with ST09's take on modernizing the aesthetic. I am excited to see Discovery's version too. But, no thanks on the 60s TOS look.

Im fairly certain no one is insisting on static images or neon screensavers, they want the same physical bridge but with new modern screen readouts.

That being said, people have complained about the modern screen readouts (transparent screens and 3D displays) on the DISCO as being too technologically advanced for a ship 10 years prior to TOS.

I love TOS, but I don't think the aesthetic holds up.

I think the TMP version is what the DSC team based their design lines off of, but I can't say that for sure.

The neck was taken right from the refit.

The pylons were as well, but those were not part of Eaves' original design, they were changed by the shows VFX team.

Then we're not reading (or reading into) the same thing, since I'm fairly certain the complaints are about the physical components being different, not the screen layouts. Too tired to parse through the posts now, but may do so later.

And I have no complaints with Discovery itself, it's a different ship. But I want to see the same NCC-1701 if/when we see the Enterprise.

A good example is how we have the same Death Star bridge in ANH and Rogue One, but in ANH Alderaan is a lower resolution matte painting while Rogue One has a very high resolution CGI image of Jedha, or Scarif, or any other of the Death Star's targets in that movie.

I don't mean just this thread. I meant comments in general on this board over the past couple of years.

I would be curious to see it as well, but I don't think it has been done yet.

It doesn't look ridiculous. It looks fucking awesome. That two-parter was among my favorite from the entire run of ENT, and one of the major reasons why was the gorgeous way it evoked the TOS aesthetic. (And it is updated, by the way... the screens are actual flat-panel video screens, which simply weren't available in the '60s, not simple transparent overlays.)
