^ That's utter crap, and you know it. Just because the XMCU chose to adapt the storyline in a way that was significantly different from the comics doesn't mean that it wasn't adapted.

I guess I wasn't sarcastic enough in my post because I was pretending that the whole film doesn't exist. Not just because of how poorly the Dark Phoenix storyline was handled (note: I've never read the original story), but also how terribly executed the whole film is other than the Beast, Shadowcat, and Magneto's scene about tattoos.

Fantastic news. His "Sweet Dreams" sequence in Apocalypse was probably the biggest highlight of the whole film.

It will be. Who will studio bosses think your general Friday/Saturday night movie goer is gonna wanna see and will draw them in? Who's gonna need to be front and centre on the posters? Who's gonna need their names embalzoned in big letters on said poster to really get those punters in??-

While I largely agree with your interpretation, I do think that Sophie Turner does have some draw because Sansa is a popular character in a very popular show.

Regardless of what definition everyone wants to use for an 'adaptation', the fact that this movie is called Dark Phoenix and therefore will presumably be about the Phoenix rather than a completely separate cure storyline seems a very clear signal that this will be a very different adaptation than the last one. As such it's no more unoriginal than any other adaptation of a comic storyline they could have chosen to do.

This isn't counting the already known Deadpool 2, New Mutants and Dark Phoenix. So, while one of these is almost certainly a quickly crapped out to keep the rights FF film, I'm betting the other 5 are X-Men related. I'm guessing deadpool 3 will be one of the 2020 dates or maybe the 2021 date, same with another "main" X-Men movie after dark Phoenix. We might also get a New Mutants 2, or the long rumored X-Force. Maybe Gambit will happen. Anyway, it will be interesting to see what we get.

I agree. "The Last Stand" has never been my favorite "X-Men" film, but I've always liked it. Is this Singer's way of "fixing" the Dark Phoenix story, like he called himself "fixing" the franchise in "Days of Future Past"? Because I was not impressed by the 2014 film, with its countless plot holes.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Though why Fox would do this is beyond me as the fans will see through this and boycott it and it won't do Fox's reputation any good either.

The Phoenix/Dark Phoenix Saga wasn't even that good to begin with. It just keeps getting used because it's the only significant storyline in Jean's whole history as a character.

It won't even surprise me if Jean Grey's Phoenix force is somehow passed to Mystique and the movie just becomes all about Jennifer Lawrence. Then Fassbender/Magneto can take the place of Cyclops and the folks at Fox can be happy.

Out of interest, why? Is he not very popular with comic readers?

Shame they never alluded to him and Mystique as the parents of Nightcrawler, which looked like where they could have gone with First Class. Even Nicholas Hault & Jennifer Lawrence joke about it in an outtake on one of the movies (can't remember which), about all the people Mystique has had relations with.

I'd have disagree with you here. If you're adapting a story, then you should actually adapt the story, rather than just taking one element or the very, very basic concept and doing you're own thing with. If you want to use the name and do your own thing with it, that's fine, just don't try to tell people you're doing a direct adaptation of that story.

You just described what an adaptation is. If you're not doing something 'new' with a property, you're not ADAPTING it; you're TRANSLATING it.

No, there is such a thing as an in-name-only adaptation, products that have absolutely nothing to do with the material they are supposed to be based on. Have you ever read Ian Fleming's Moonraker? Try comparing that to the movie and calling it an adaptation.

Are they not from the same production company (Fox)?

Legion is most certainly in the X-Men universe, and the producer has said he's open to either McAvoy or Stewart appearing as Xavier in the show -- and Stewart has said he's happy to do it. Wouldn't be surprised to see him show up in the second season.
