2. Harding: Three words, teapot dome scandal. He was an idiot and hired all of his Ohio buddies to come and work in the White House and his cabinet. He was what led to the Great Depression.
OMG! That is so wrong that I don't even know where to begin. I'll be brief....
1.) Harding had nothing to do with the Teapot Dome Scandal and didn't even know about it. In fact, the scandal didn't even become known until after Harding's death.
2.) The man was a successful businessman who prospered in the private sector before he entered politics. You can't do that and be an idiot. How do you even justify such a claim?
3.) Only one member of his cabinet was from Ohio. And his so-called "Ohio Gang" consisted of the Attorney General, the Director of the Veteran's Bureau, an assistant to the Attorney General, and a personal adviser - clearly a master guild of federal power.
4.) He was what led to the Great Depression?

Herbert Hoover's interventionist economic policies led to the Depression. In fact, when Hoover was Secretary of Commerce under Harding and Calvin Coolidge, they both said that all the advise he offered them was uniformly bad and refused to follow it. Saying that he caused it is like saying that Bill Clinton caused the current meltdown.
Why do people blame Harding for the Great Depression when he had only been in office for a year maybe less?
It wasn't his fault, he just came into a corrupt government.
It might have to do with his attitude and the way he handled things DURING the Great Depression.
Umm, Harding died while in office in 1923, more than six years before the Depression started.
