The Wizards versus the "Muggles"

Wouldn't there be widespread panic among the Muggle community if they learned of the existence of magic? Harry probably wouldn't want to risk that.

Just remember, there's a reason the wizards and witches feel they have to hide. They're the ones who are scared and have to hide, not the muggles.

I think that says it all, really.

It is kind of odd that they hide from the muggles. With their magical abilities they could be worshiped like kings/queens by us mere mortals.

You know enough about people to know that if they revealed themselves with all their magical powers they would either be picked off one by one or bombed in job lots.

Voldemort is...Apocalypse?

Snape is Magneto.
That is better. Since Magneto was never really evil at all.

Did you ever read any pre-Claremont X-Men comics? Magneto was most definitely evil.

Anyway, according to the books, the (primary) reason that wizards hide is that they got tired (in ancient times) of having muggles constantly begging them for magical solutions to their problems. The wizards chose segregation as a means of getting some peace for themselves and to enjoy their <ahem> lifestyle choice.

That would make sense. It appears though that by the 21st century the muggles has surpassed the wizards using technology with basic conveniences

Hello Harry, why don't you get a cell phone? Oh and GPS tracking devices would have been very useful several times during your journey. ;)

Ah, yes, but the books don't take place in the 21st Century. They are set in the 90's. So Harry might have a pager but probably not a cell phone.

LOL! Good points! I've often commented that the wizards seem to shun even the most basic tech. They write on parchment instead of on notepads, they use quills instead of Bic pens, they even cook on wood-burning stoves.....and although they send their kids to school on a steam train, they don't drive cars, at least not ordinarily...

Exactly. You might accidentally splinch yourself while apparating, but at least you won't take out an innocent family of 4 in a minivan.

I remember reading somewhere that nearly as many Americans died in traffic accidents the week of 9/11 as died in the Towers and the Pentagon. IMO, it should be a banner headline every day: "A Bunch of People Died Today for Absolutely No Damn Reason". :(

What would you prefer, we get rid of cars completely?
