The Walking Dead Season 6 Discussion

Then you miss the point of these types of discussions. Because OF COURSE NO MATTER WHAT THEY DO THE STORY IS GOING TO MAKE WHATEVER NEEDS TO HAPPEN HAPPEN FOR THE SAKE OF DRAMA!!!!

You are guilty of Meta-posting. That's posting about a topic and trying to use real-world logic to explain it rather than using in-universe logic. "Why didn't the Enterprise use the same technique they did in episode to avoid the threat?" "Well, because the writers didn't remember it or ignored it for the sake of telling a good story."

You've now crashed your end of this discussion, once you explain things by using real-world logic you lose.

But I didn't use that logic to defend anything, except for that there is no right or wrong here. Yes, I understand these discussions. Go back to when we were discussing said first episode where I said to another poster that it can be fun to discuss the what ifs anyways, regardless of what the writers will decide. Because it's fun! Accept that the episode did what it did and move on with the fun conjecture.

But at some point here, things became not fun. It started when certain posters started sniping at each other or taking things personally; making declarations of winning internet arguments or saying that those who believe otherwise are ignorant or wrong. That's what's happened here, and Scout was totally right (even though I'm guilty of it) that posting as much about this topic as we have is kinda dumb. Taking these things personally to the point where a person is clearly angrily typing (unless I'm missing the point of your all caps declarations, because that's how it comes across) is just silly.

That's why I bring up the meta argument. Because some people can't seem to discuss things calmly or in good fun anymore. Those people probably need to step away from the keyboard for a bit and come back when they can handle that someone else has a different opinion.

No--TV series lose, because producers are selling it to a real world audience, not the characters. The audience has to believe in the characters and situations. This is the reason why in the same season (3) where Glenn--bound to a chair--wasted no time in breaking free to kill the walker sent after him. However, at the very end of that same season, Andrea (with a galaxy's worth of experience with dying people / walkers) stopped to get into a misty conversation with the very mortally wounded Milton, instead of racing to break her handcuffs.

Swarms of viewers complained about that not making sense--and yes, the audience was the party who needed that scene to make sense. It did not, and was a poor coda to an otherwise strong season.

I finally got caught up today so I can watch tonight.
I really enjoyed the first couple episodes. I caught up on the second half of last season through wikipedia, so the S6 episodes were my first exposure to Alexandria and it's residents.
I don't read the comics, so I don't know how Alexandria is there, but I like we we're getting here. Most of the new characters seem pretty interesting. I have to wonder if they are setting up a relationship between Rick and the blond. I know him having just killed her husband is a bit of a mood killer for now, but that was the impression I got.
I really like the way they gave us the quieter first episode, with the big action heavy second episode.
I was pretty surprised by the Wolves attack in JSS, with the way First Time Again ended, I was expecting the zombie herd.

It seems like that's where they're going, but for some reason I kinda hope they don't to switch it up. I liked that she was angry with him as that seems a pretty good response, but they'll probably succumb to the chemistry that they have anyways. I didn't really care for their approach to this whole dynamic as opposed to the comics. In the show, they kinda made it seem like Rick wanted to kill Pete just to get with her, which isn't exactly what happened in the comic (at least how I remember it anyways, it's been awhile). But for the most part everything else has happened the same way so far.

That seems to be a pattern in popular TV today, especially with large ensemble casts. Stories get continued in two or even three weeks rather than right away the next week. It sometimes makes me feel like watching the season all at once would be a better option, but then it's really hard to avoid spoilers and then there's not as much opportunity for discussion.

Typical bait and switch story telling by the writers on the show. Give us what one group is doing one week, then go back and show us what the other group was doing during the same time.

We'll get the zombie herd tonight and the fallout of the attack on alexandria next week.

Lauren Cohan said this season would be worse than season five regarding things. She's right so far. Sad.

Memorable episode moments: Glenn kneeling--I think its clear he was preparing to pray--while holding Hershel's pocket watch gift. Calling Rick "dumbass"--now a nice continuity reference to the pilot (tank scene), and almost forecasting he would be surrounded by walkers just as Rick was in that episode.

On the one hand, Glenn trying to place trust in Nicholas was the good, encouraging side the character displayed since the beginning, but that character trait is a double edged sword in the ZA world.

What are the chances he's still alive and that was Nicholas laying on top of him being torn apart?

^ Hadn't thought of that. I thought that Glenn finally got it.

[Edit] Damon Lindelof said the same thing on Talking Dead.

Who broke into the RV and shot at Rick?

Not buying it until they confirm... They are being totally non comittal, which to me means that there's a good chance they are messing with us...

They're just toying with us at this point. I'm hoping it was Nicolas' guts being ripped out while lying on top of Glen.

Not in the memorial, not on TTD and no special secret guest star. I wonder if Nicholas's blood provided Glenn with the "walker camo?"

He wasn't in the Talking Dead memoriam and Hardwick read a statement saying that we would see Glenn's story resolve in some way.

Flashback?

Glenn escapes--mortally wounded and somehow crawls his way back to Alexandria?

Pumpkin, we do not agree on the Wolves issue, but the camo is a very good idea! :bolian:

Still, with the next episode being 90 minutes, I think its going to be a terrible memorial plotline....

My thought is more he reanimated and Maggie has to put down reanimated Glenn. But, really, I would have expected Glenn to live until Negan shows up since the show tries to track more with the comics. Ugh, just painful. One of the more painful TV "deaths" in a while. I don't even think Herschel was this painful.

Going with survived but sustained a walker bite here. He'll get to say good bye before he dies.

I actually feel sorry for the loss of Nicholas too. He was starting to come around to being an asset.

Gotta take a moment to complain about one of the contrived and dumb aspects of the show though. Why the hell do they spend so much time on foot? There are millions of cars out there and all they've managed to scrape together is one crappy oldsmobile, a motorcycle and another RV.

Fuck, they should have a motorpool in one corner of the compound with a selection of vehicles for whatever situation they may need.

ETA: Oh, guess the producers took all the "black people dying" comments to heart with this episode. You'll notice only white characters (and Glenn?) died tonight.
