The Visitor 20th Anniversary

^ Perhaps only the most noteworthy episodes, not every single episode of the series.

I have always enjoyed "The Visitor". It ranks as one of my top DS9 episodes.
The father/son relationship of Benjamin and Jake was always one of my favourite aspects of the show.

Just curious are we going to do this for every episode of the series going forward?

Well, DS9 season 4 is one of TV's best seasons so I could; The Visitor is an episode worth mentioning, as are Hippocratic Oath & Indiscretion. Rejoined is 20 years old at the end of the month, so I think a topic for that is warranted.

Probably the best DS9 episode. No matter how many times I see it I'm still moved by it. Avery Brooks, Tony Todd, hell even Cirroc Lofton acted their socks off and the writers delivered the goods with bells on.

Getting impatient for the 20th anniversary of the DS9 Risa episode are we?:rommie:

October 9th marks the 20th anniversary of "The Visitor".
So what? Episodes get birthday threads now?

It wasn't even good, I hate everything about it.

Tony Todd (in a role that should have been played by Cirroc Lofton) tells his sob story to some chick, then Ben appears, acts completely unrealistic, Jake dies and the entire thing poofs out of existence.

I have no idea why so many people seem to go gaga over this boring POS episode.

Human emotion, perhaps?

When I rewatch the series, it's great when this DVD comes around. A great drama story in "Indiscretion", a great tragedy in "The Visitor", a great action story in "Starship Down", and then a great comedy in "Little Green Men".

Why not just create a one large DS9 20th anniversary thread than. I don't mind talking about Season 4 (It's the season I'm currently rewatching), and I didn't mind the thread for Way of the Warrior because it was kind of like a relaunch to the series, but then we're doing the next episode and I start wondering if this is going to be a "thing".

I can't wait till we get to 20 years for Return to Grace. Just watched that episode, and that is one of the more pivitol underrated episodes of the series I think. What it does for Dukat makes that episode is calm before the storm turning point for that character.

If you have to ask, you wouldn't understand, but you must realise you're in a minority?

Yes, definitely. And in five years we'll have a second round for the 25th, which will overlap with the 30th anniversary in five more years.

I see wonderful times ahead! :techman:

(no offense please :) I thought this was about the pilot so my lame joke doesn't work anyway)

Well acted and a touching story of the love a boy has for his father and what he would sacrafice for him. It brought a tear to my eye, one of the rare times that ever happened with a tv show.
Of course, it kind of makes Sisko look like dick for not visiting Jake at the end of the What You Leave Behind.

I would be more impressed if it were in Bajoran years (which I estimate are 2 years, 10 months on Earth).

Not enough pew pew.
Disagree with me about the episode but spare me bullshit comments like that.:klingon:
Don't make assumptions about me, I don't dislike the episode because of a lack of action, one of my favourite episodes of the entire series is Duet and that's mostly two people talking to each other but unlike The Visitor Duet affects a major character, Kira gets to see (probably for the first time in her life) another side of Cardassians, a decent man who truly despises what happened and regrets what his people did to the Bajorans. It's about guilt, trying to make things right, forgiveness, revenge

The Visitor is pure filler, there's no story progression or character development, it's nothing but a "what if" story with Jake pressing the reset button at the end, it's meaningless.
I dislike the casting of Tony Todd, they put old age make up on everyone including Tony Todd but Cirroc Lofton gets replaced by another actor entirely for the adult scenes, that shouldn't have happened.
Ben acts creepy, from his perspective Jake ages to an old man close to death in what can't be more than a few hours but instead of being confused, scared or panicking he just sits there calmly watching his son ...

The episode is depressing from start to finish, there's not a moment of fun.

And of course I realize I'm in the minority but why should I care? Am I supposed to fall in line and pretend I like it because everybody else does? That's not going to happen.

You can feel however you'd like about the episode. But if I remember correctly, your opinion is highly rooted in DS9-Voyager antagonism:
What was the point of the episode? It's not like we didn't know before that Ben and Jake truly love each other, there where no revelations in "The Visitor" except that old Jake had no problem whiping out decades of history to save one person. Most people like to throw shit at Janeway for doing just that to save precious Seven and Tuvok. I don't see the difference, but for some reason many people act like Jake did something noble, while Janeway is a selfish cow.

Oh, calm down, you'll give yourself a nose bleed. I made a light-hearted inference from your description of the episode as "boring". Of course you shouldn't fall into line with the majority, and if you're going to offer constructive criticism (which you since have), fine, but if you're going to put across what comes off as contrarian, inflammatory nonsense about this "boring POS episode" that has been widely praised for twenty years, don't expect to be taken too seriously.

I also thought this episode was a tad overrated. Its good, but a lot of people hold it up as one of the best of DS9 and I just don't see it.
