The unnecessary reboot/remake of the week thread

Two of the earliest prototypes for superheros (who we still remember) are The Scarlett Pimpernel (1905) and Zorro (1919). Both are upper class men who hide their identity while helping those they deem in need of help. Zorro adds the costume. Add in Superpowers to that formula and you get The Shadow (1930) who was plagiarized to create Batman.

Plagiarized seems a bit strong.

The Shadow didn't have super powers, not until he moved to radio which I'm pretty sure was after Superman debuted

(I just rewatched the Baldwin movie a couple weeks ago and read up on him)

I loved the TV series 'Forever' with ioan gruffudd, so would have loved a reboot of that, but just started watching Harrow, an Australian series, also with ioan gruffudd and its very very similar, he is playing almost the same character, without the immortality angle.

If you like the heist genre, look in on Money Heist on Netflix. It's a Spanish production and is VERY good, IMHO.

I started watching that with my stepdad last weekend and I thought we could plow through it because it's only "5 parts" which turned out to be "seasons" and there's actually like 60-some episodes which we didn't catch onto at first lol. Since he'll only watch stuff if it's not subtitled I can vouch that they seem to do a good job with the dub.

I'll take a look at it! I was considering it but didn't know if it was any good, :)

There's a lot to unfold with this show and it has a LOT of twists and turns. But if you stick with it, it pays off (so to speak).

My wife and I are on season 5 ep 6

Lots if flashbacks so we see many old characters.... at this point wondering how the past and prsent collide.. and the future...

NBC is developing a Life Goes On continuation, not a remake. Kellie Martin will be the lead.

Another attempt at a Quantum Leap revival.

The good: Donald P. Bellisario is involved.
The bad: Scott Bakula isn't involved (yet).
The good: The story will have Project Quantum Leap being revived 30 years later, so not a clean reboot.
The bad: The La Brea showrunners are involved.
The good: Martin Gero (Blindspot, L.A. Complex, Stargate Atlantis, Bored to Death) is involved.

I thought they'd already turned it into a one-hour serialized drama when they started Next Class, which was trying to mimic a soap-opera daily release. Wonder if this will be a continuation like Degrassi: The Next Generation was, as that one while a reboot, was a bit of both as it continued on from the others and involved the kids of the originals.

And now another Degrassi - this one on HBO Max.

I just hope they're smart enough not to put Drake alone with a bunch of teenage actresses.

No disrespect intended towards Scott Bakula, but since they obviously can't have Dean Stockwell, I'd prefer Bakula be left out. The team of Bakula and Stockwell defined Quantum Leap so much that IMO if you can't have both, don't bother with either.

I think it will star Sam's daughter. Since the show is being created by Bellisario I expect him to be respectful to both of the Sam and Al characters and even if it would have been better to see Sam and Al together I think he will still find a decent tribute to the AL character and actor. Bakula I think could even show up from time to time in special episodes.
